About the Book

Biomass in Small-Scale Energy Applications: Theory and Practice presents the current trends in the development of selected biomass-based technologies for distributed energy generation. It describes the methodology, experimental results, and computer simulations with a focus on pilot systems and devices crucial in multiple applications with related environmental/economic issues. It describes which stages of design, development, and application of advanced biomass-based energy devices are critical in order for a given technology to be successful. It includes both technical/practical information and theoretical background related to combustion kinetics, thermodynamics in energy systems, and properties of selected types of biomass, as well as case studies.

Table of Contents:

About the Author :
MARIUSZ FILIPOWICZ is an Associate Professor in AGH University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Energy and Fuels and currently heads the Department of Sustainable Energy Development. Main areas of research are related with renevable energy technologies (mainly biomas, solar and wind), the effective use of energy and nuclear physics (nuclear fusion reactions in the range of ultra-low energy). He has authored and co-authored more than 250 scientific papers. He is also a leader of scientific projects in part of AGH, e.g.: "BioORC: Construction of cogeneration system with small to medium size biomass boilers" under KIC InnoEnergy support. MATEUSZ SZUBEL is an assistant profesor in AGH University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Energy and Fuels and member of research group focused on issues of renewable energy technologies in the Department of Sustainable Energy Development. He is a specialist in range of the research of the conditions for the sustainable energy development and engaged in the investigation of possibilities to use the computational fluid dynamics in optimization of the renewable energy technologies and increasing the energy efficiency of the energy devices. His research is focused on numerical modeling of biomass-fired heating devices. He is an author and co-author of more than ninety (90) scientific papers.
