About the Book

Practice is more than just practice. Practice is the prescription for improvement. People with aphasia must become more aware that practicing is the cure. The book sections include Words, Language, Awareness, Memory, Thinking, Timing, Neurons, and Plasticity. The brain requires a special kind of "food"--activities and experiences which induce plasticity. These stories were part of the process of engaging the environment to "light up" learning, on the way to getting your language back.

About the Author :
Thomas G. Broussard, Jr., Ph.D. had his stroke in 2011 and could not read, write or speak well. Since then he has founded Stroke Educator, Inc. and is running a 50-state Aphasia Awareness Campaign, talking about stroke, aphasia, and recovery. Stroke Diary: A Primer for Aphasia Therapy, and Stroke Diary: The Secret of Aphasia Recovery were the first and second of the trilogy. He was a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, naval officer, naval shipbuilder, and a business owner in career development and training.

Review :
"Dr. Broussard's Stroke Diary Series provides much desired education, hope and empowerment to those living with aphasia. It is one of the most valuable "tools" for clinicians, students and all those who are dedicated to helping those with aphasia. Every person who reads this book will take something profound away from it." Jodi Morgan, CCC-SLP Brooks Rehabilitation Aphasia Center Manager Clinical Assistant Professor Jacksonville University "Tom's latest book provides an invaluable guide into the experience of aphasia and aphasia recovery from the inside. People with aphasia are our best teachers about how aphasia impacts language, thought, and life. Tom 's work is a remarkable example of this." Sharon M. Antonucci, Ph.D. CCC-SLP "Dr. Broussard writes about aphasia recovery from a personal perspective that cannot be provided by clinicians or scientists. His account of how one navigates recovery from stroke is both inspiring and insightful. Although the book is written for persons with aphasia and their families, I believe it would also appeal to those of us who study aphasia. It is a necessary reminder that our ultimate goal is to conduct research that benefits persons with aphasia." Julius Fridriksson, Ph.D., University of South Carolina;Endowed Chair, SmartState Director, Center for the Study of Aphasia Recovery (C-STAR) Co-Director, McCausland Center for Brain Imaging
