About the Book

The Principal Reader speaks directly to aspiring, novice, and experienced school leaders. The book features 56 leadership narratives from practising school leaders from the United States and Canada on topics such as: leadership theories in practice; confronting the status quo; improving instruction; reconciliation through education; leading through adversity; the challenge of change; fostering collaborative learning cultures; and social justice.

About the Author :
Darrin Griffiths, Ed.D. has held leadership positions in schools in Toronto and Hamilton-Wentworth District School Boards since 1997. Currently he is the principal of Mountain View Elementary School in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada. Darrin is also a Senior Lecturer (PT) with Niagara University, where he teaches masters level courses on educational leadership and curriculum. He is the author of Principals of Inclusion: Practical Strategies to Grow Inclusion in Urban Schools (2013), and co-editor with John P. Portelli [OISE/University of Toronto], Key Questions for Educational Leaders (2015). More recently, Darrin edited Save Our Teachers' Souls: Professional and Social Well-Being in a Managerial Environment (2016), a book by Danielle Cassell and Victoria Door [Keele University, UK]. He is co-editing an upcoming book with James Ryan [OISE/University of Toronto] titled Case Studies for Inclusive Educators and Leaders (May-June 2017). Scott Lowrey, Ed.D. is an Elementary School Principal in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada and Assistant Professor (Limited Duties) at Western University. He received Canada's Outstanding Principals (COP) recognition in 2005, the inaugural year of the program, for initiatives relating to early literacy and the creation of a multi-generational continuum of community partnerships encompassing society's youngest to society's most senior. Scott is also an annual participant with the COP Academy (COPA) Executive Leadership Development Program (Rotman School of Management of the University of Toronto). Scott holds a doctorate in Educational Administration from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, and was nominated for the CASEA Thomas B. Greenfield Dissertation Award (Canadian Association for the Study of Educational Administration). The title of his dissertation was Canada's Outstanding Principals: A Mixed-Methods Investigation of Leadership Development, Transformational Leadership, and Principal Efficacy. To relax, Scott enjoys the Stratford Shakespeare Festival and Canadian music (i.e., Trent Severn, Blue Rodeo, Lee Harvey Osmond, Whitehorse, Gordon Lightfoot, and Kathleen Edwards). Scott was inducted in the McMaster University's Alumni Gallery in 2014.
