Review :
"This book can help readers sort out their personal values on this inti¬mate and inevitable subject. The first-person writing is unsparing in its argument that lack of directives, and poor ones, only lead to more confu¬sion over the health system's rules and regulations and more suffering of patients." - Judge, 23rd Annual Writer's Digest Self-Published Book Awards. "Drawing from his experiences as an emergency room physician, Dr. Kev¬in Haselhorst has crafted his book Wishes to Die For as a heartfelt and enlightened appeal that 'patients be allowed to die the way their doc¬tors do.' His thoughtful Universal Healthcare Directive should serve as a roadmap for future discussions as we ponder how to honor our patients' dignity and divinity at the end-of-life." - Karen Wyatt, MD, hospice physician and author of What Really Matters "In Wishes To Die For, Dr. Kevin Haselhorst brings his deep experience as an ER physician to the task of helping us, and those we love, die with forethought, dignity, and peacefulness." - Larry Dossey, MD, author of One Mind: How Our Individual Mind Is Part of a Greater Consciousness and Why It Matters "It's well worth taking this journey with the author to help us clarify our own beliefs." Excerpt from the Foreword - Carol Bradley Bursack, columnist and author of Minding Our Elders "It's unusual to be able to tap into an emergency department physician's thinking on the topic of advance care planning. He himself seeks '"to be conscious long enough to make dying mindful, meaningful, and certain."' That's an outcome that many of us would value." - Deborah J. Cornwall, author of Things I Wished I'd Known: Cancer Caregivers Speak Out "This book is very helpful for health care providers, patients, and families when approaching death or when people are planning for their death even when death is not imminent. The author has vast experience in this area and brings his experience, wisdom, and humor to this often-ignored task. The book was helpful to me personally and professionally and I rec¬ommend it to clients." - Carolyn Conger, PhD, author of Through the Dark Forest: Transforming Your Life in the Face of Death "Through Wishes To Die For, Dr. Haselhorst poignantly demonstrates the importance of completing Healthcare Directives. Truly, end-of-life con¬versations begin in the heart of the person and their family prior to being addressed by a physician, hospital policy, or the government. This book shows us how to start the journey with our loved ones in the comfort of our homes." - Deb Lavender, Missouri State Representative "Brilliantly written and a book that needs to be read by many as we will all face these issues at some time. A subject that needs more attention." - William Tacchi, Director of Rehabilitation, Brookdale Rancho Mirage, California "I was afraid that your book would take me places I either did not want to be reminded of, or were just plain painful. You have been able to relieve some fear for me." - Charles Metz, O.D., Ph.D, Chicago, Illinois "Kevin's perspective helped me re-frame my views on death, as I faced my mom's passing, making the loss I was feeling less difficult to face and more meaningful to me." - Bren Shropshire, consultant and columnist, Healthy Solutionz, Greensboro, North Carolina
