About the Book

The author and setting of the book of Hebrews have been hidden for too long. Perhaps they have just been discovered. This is not another commentary on Hebrews. It is an analysis of the setting--which shines a beacon on the message. Pinpointing the author, historical setting, and target audience makes the urgency of the message clear--not only for the ancient Hebrews but for Christians today. Bob Andersen has been an attorney for over 40 years. He holds a Master's Degree in Theological Studies and has thought about this subject for decades. Andersen presents the evidence as he would in court--one piece at a time. As you follow the clues regarding the destination, date, and purpose of writing, the implications of the message become clear--both for the ancient Hebrews and for us today.

Review :
Based on thousands of hours of research, this volume deserves the attention of those who love the Book of Hebrews. It makes a strong case for a minority view-that the neglected figure of Silas, also known as Silvanus, wrote the letter to Hebrew Christians in Jerusalem at the time of the first Jewish Rebellion in early AD 67. This makes this book worth reading. But additional reasons are not hard to find. While exploring Hebrews and its background, Bob Andersen sheds light on neglected NT figures, Apollos, Barnabas, Priscilla and Aquila, John Mark, Aristarchus, Epaphroditus, and Demas and further illuminates better known ones, including James, Luke, Timothy, and even Peter and Paul. As readers follow Bob's case for Silas's authorship of Hebrews, they encounter many surprises: the literature, history, and chronology of the early church, Roman emperors, travel in the Roman world, literary devices, and figures of speech among them. Above all this volume highlights the message of Hebrews and its application to the lives of believers today. --Robert A. Peterson, Ph.D. retired professor of systematic theology and author With the keen eye of a long-practicing attorney and the high view of Scripture of a theologian, Bob Andersen's presentation deserves serious consideration. As an attorney, his treatise walks us through the material in a clear and logical fashion piecing all the data together. As a theologian, scripture permeates his book. He also pulls out 1st Century Church History to present dates, times, and persons of interest that substantiate his position even further. Bob graciously interacts with those who hold different positions and yet, isn't afraid to go toe-to-toe with those alternate views. Get a cup of coffee, and dive into this excellent work. Spend serious time here. The sheer number of hours in research requires you to go slowly and carefully through his book. Keep your Bible next to you and read the scripture references. This book will be useful to pastors as well as a required textbook in Bible Colleges and Seminaries. We as readers are the jury and the question before us is, "Did Attorney Andersen prove his case?" I could not dismiss this material and its presentation; it is very compelling. --Mark Matthews, M.T.S. - Pastor, Grand View Baptist Church, Grand Terrace, CA I have known about Bob's interest in the authorship of Hebrews since he was a member of my congregation many years ago. He is a lawyer so put yourself in the jury box to hear all the arguments-and he presents them all. I finished the book with the conviction that Silas was, indeed, the probable author of Hebrews. --Rev. Ben West, M.Div. Everyone loves solving a mystery. Since the author of Hebrews is unnamed, a mystery is what we have. From his opening statement in Chapter One to his closing argument in Chapter 15, Andersen looks at all the evidence through the eyes of an attorney. Andersen connects the dots to form a clear picture. And there are many more dots than you could have imagined as you view the mountains of evidence his research has revealed. The final three chapters bring us to our present culture which has many commonalities with the culture of the 1st Century. Hebrews comes alive as we see the same circumstances happening in real-time. Hebrews is relevant to us today, and so is Bob's book. --Ron Daley, M. Div, Bible teacher, Adjunct instructor at Cebu Graduate School of Theology During my 35 years of teaching New Testament Survey courses, when I come to the book of Hebrews the usual attribution of authorship is the apostle Paul or that it is unknown. Andersen utilizes his argument skills as an attorney and his exhaustive studies as a theologian to make a compelling argument for Silas! --Guy Grimes, M.Div, D.Min., M.A. Counseling
