About the Book

An ex-Marine only days from homelessness. A wealthy Southern matriarch in need of protection from her children. And a solution that could destroy them all. Charlie Woods survived three tours in Afghanistan without a mark. Now he's barely scraping by. Desperate for money, he accepts a lucrative job driving the sharp-witted but frail Vivien Granville from Georgia to her son's funeral in Key West. Vivien recognizes Charlie's simple decency and maneuvers him and his ambitious wife, Desiree, into her mansion life. Unsuspecting human shields. Desiree wants in permanently, whatever the cost. For Charlie, it's a trap lined with secrets and temptation-especially one dangerously alluring daughter. As tensions rise and lies unravel, Charlie finds himself outnumbered and teetering on the edge of betrayal. Has his luck finally run out?

About the Author :
I'm the middle child of five. Regular smoker at eleven (quit at thirty-two). Actually liked school, especially high school, where my modern language was Russian.Father at twenty and grandfather at forty-seven. College took nine years at four schools (BS from Fairleigh Dickinson).I've earned money cutting grass in a graveyard, washing dishes, sorting mail, collecting for a finance company, bookkeeping, supervising seventy office clerks, and selling insurance - eventually owning the agency with my older brother. After cashing out, I switched from part-time to full-time fiction writing. Pieces have won and placed in short fiction contests. Others have appeared in numerous e-zines. Before switching to novels, I released a collection of my favorites in Sum of Many Things.Replacement Children is my first published novel. Evenings and Mournings, the second. Detour From Honor, the sequel to Replacement Children is the most recent, for now.My first-and-only wife, Ann Marie (the oldest of ten), enriches my life in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, while the rest of our va

Review :
"Replacement Children" throws hard punches. Maloy knows his refreshingly mature characters, and is not afraid to send them down rough roads. Real people make for scarier horror stories than do vampires and werewolves. Charlie "Dense" Woods and Vivien Granville are lost in a forest full of shadows cast by their own ravenous kin. Here's a dark look at the institutions of marriage, family, and money that you cannot easily dismiss. Sohrab Homi Fracis, author of "Ticket to Minto: Stories of India and America" (Iowa Short Fiction Award) Much like the morbid attraction of a roadside wreck, the clash of culture and class in Maloy's debut novel shines a spotlight on the human condition with a cast of characters readers will remember long after the last page is turned. Parker Francis, author of the Quint Mitchell Mystery series Rick Maloy's Replacement Children brilliantly explores how the pull of money can affect people no matter where they started. Maloy's characters squander their energies trying to find the next angle, with no regard to those they're manipulating. But he does a masterful job of showing where every machination eventually leads, and the tragic consequences of greed come through in frightening ways with every twist in this fascinating plot. With Replacement Children, Maloy has produced a fabulous debut novel. Russell Rowland, author of High and Inside, In Open Spaces, and The Watershed Years Limo driver Charlie Woods and matriarch Vivien Granville may initially remind readers of "Driving Miss Daisy," but author Rick Maloy has other catfish to fry. Atmospheric and character-driven, Replacement Children is a skillfully woven tale of greed, lust, tragedy - and unlikely redemption - in the rural South. St. Paul allegedly said that it was better to marry than to burn. He might rethink that after reading this fine book. Lawrence De Maria, author of eight novels, former Ne
