About the Book

Age Range: 6-8 Series: Lamby Lambpants and FriendsLamby's THIRD Exciting Magical Playroom Adventure! Jonesy the Chinese puppy dragon has dreams of flying, but he can't get off the ground. Lamby Lambpants and best-friend Snout, a pair of plush toys brought to life by magic, have a plan to help Jonesy. It won't be easy, and it even might be a dangerous without babysitter Katie Beagle around. A big day filled with lots of "imagination and play" for one dragon with special needs suddenly turns into a very big adventure for two new friends who must learn the meaning of friendship. Beautifully illustrated, fun-to-read out loud "picture book" for early readers.Amazon Q&A with Picture Book Author D. Byron PattersonQ: Byron, what inspired you to write this story?A: I created this cartoon lamb character a few years ago. I designed him, gave him a voice and a playful, imaginative world. I'm surrounding him with a group of lovable disabled misfits, some real (like Jonesy) and some brought to life (like Lamby and his best friend Snout). The lamb and the pig are these wounded little toys that continually strive to overcome their disabilities. And the Chinese dragon is actually a special needs character with a never ending desire to fly (even though all he does is fall whenever he tries). I've also put countless drawings and hours of recorded music and stories to Lamby's website Lambpants.com. While not an origin story, "the Incredible Flying Jonesy" is a perfect snapshot of how the three main characters in this world start to become best friends.Q: So what's Lamby's backstory then?A: Lamby once was a plush stuffed toy that the family dog happened upon and chewed up one day. There were two Chinese dragons in the area at the time, and one of them accidentally imbued a random bottle cap with ancient Chinese dragon magic. Lamby came to life after the cap was put into his head to cover up the gaping wound the dog inflicted there. Q: What would you like readers to take away from this picture book?A: There's magic everywhere if you have courage to look for it. When we are being ourselves, when we accept our own flaws and imperfections proudly, we can see that magic. That's how you find lasting friendships. That's how you discover your authentic self. Both of which ultimately lead to having a heart always ready to be filled with love.
