About the Book

Including an audio CD narrated in both English and Spanish, Joi the Koi Gets a New Home is a sensitively illustrated story about a beautiful Japanese koi fish livingin a pet store called Ark Land, where she learns patience and faith while waiting to be adopted by a special loving family. Finally, whenJoi sees a girl who likes her, she charms her by kissing the glass wall of the aquarium. This event-filled fish adoption story isparalleled with theBiblical quotation: Now Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1, KJV). Joi the Koi Gets a New Home is finished with Fun Fish Facts about Guppies, Bettas, Koi, and Shubunkin or Calico Goldfish. Review :
Candace Huber, Owner/Director Grow -n- Glow Preschool, New London, IA My children at our Preschool totally LOVED Joi the Koi, Gets a New Home!! This book was a joy to read! It was so fun to read this book to a group of kids all together. The kids were held spellbound with the wonder and hope of Joi the Koi getting a new home outside the pet store. This delightful story was a passionate and sweet story of a Japanese Koi fish that learns what patience and faith really is. Kids can easily relate with the rhythmic story line. Our children cheered when Joi finally found that special someone who wanted her enough to buy her and take her home. Children need to know that having the type of faith that Joi had, will many times make all the difference in life. It -s just a plus to know the lesson in this book is such a positive one! As teachers we appreciated the lessons in counting, telling time, a few fun fish facts, plus the responsibility of having a fish as a pet. The children LOVED the illustrations! cents3/4 They were simply beautiful, fun, sweet, and accurate! The Audio CD was a huge bonus as the kids now feel empowered and independent to be able to take the CD and read on their own. It simply is a favorite book of many children at my preschool! We love Joi the Koi! Terri Wiltshire Originally from Alabama, Terri has lived in Newport, Wales (UK) for the past 25 years. A former journalist, columnist, and college lecturer (Creative Writing, Writing for Film and Television), she has had six children -s books published in the U.K., U.S., Germany, and Portugal. Her first novel was published by Macmillan in 2009 and was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year in 2010. Joi the Koi Gets a New Home, written by Devon Anthony and illustrated by Gwen Clifford is a great example of story and pictures blending together to make a perfect match. The story is simple and sweet with plenty of opportunities for interactive play between the reader and the child. The soft pastels are well suited for the story, but the real bonus is that every single page is bursting with detail. It -s the sort of book that a child will return to again and again, because there is so much to see. It is also a book that parents will enjoy sharing with their child because there is so much scope for play . For example: How many bubbles can you count? How many frogs do you see? What time does the clock say now? Combined with the many times the text invites a child to repeat the sounds of dogs, birds, and cats . Joi the Koi makes for an enchanting and rewarding read for all ages. "
