El secuestro y asesinato del concejal del Partido Popular, Miguel Angel Blanco, por parte de la banda terrorista ETA en julio de 1997 fue noticia en todos los medios de comunicacion del mundo. Los terroristas dieron 48 horas de plazo para que el Gobierno de Madrid reagrupase en las carceles del Pais Vasco a los presos de ETA. Jose Herrero no solo describio este hecho en la novela "Dos disparos contra la libertad," que imagino durante esas horas de terror en las que el concejal estuvo secuestrado, sino que nos describe los acontecimientos de aquellos momentos en los que el pueblo dijo basta a la barbarie terrorista, aunque tambien hace una dura critica a la indolencia del Gobierno en esta materia. Tratando de animar a Miguel Angel, el narrador le cuenta desde la distancia los avatares de su vida como corresponsal de guerra en el declive de su vida. Una novela amena y bien estructurada que combina nobles sentimientos con el dolor y el resentimiento de un pueblo harto de tanta violencia, y la pasividad de los diferentes gobiernos que han sido incapaces de acabar definitivamente con esta lacra.

Jose Herrero es un escritor asturiano que lleva afincado en Andalucia 25 anos tras su regreso de America, donde vivio durante cinco anos en Venezuela y en Canada. Diplomado en Direccion y Administracion de Empresas (EEUU) y Master en Direccion Comercial y Marketing (Madrid), comenzo a escribir desde muy joven. Ejercio el peridismo durante muchos anos, en prensa canadiense, en Malaga y Jaen. Actualmente colabora con la revista XXI Legio. En 1975 fue finalista del Vicente Blasco Ibanez de novela (Valencia), en 1981 queda finalista del Casino de Mieres de novela corta, en 1986 obtiene la VI edicion del premio Asturias de novela, de la Fundacion Dolores Medio, con Un tiovivo para esta Navidad (recientemente publicada en bubok), en 1987 gana el primer concurso de cuentos Armando Palacio Valdes del Centro Asturiano de Malaga, en 1991 es mencion honorifica Colegiata de Murias del XIII Concurso de Cuentos Aller, y ese mismo ano queda finalista del concurso La Felguera de cuentos. En 2005 su cuento Requiem por aquel nino solitario y triste es finalista del concurso internacional de cuentos Historias Magicas y Verdaderas, de Aldeas Infantiles SOS, cediendo sus derechos a la entidad convocante, y que fue publicado junto con los otros veinte finalistas (de entre mas de mil quinientos) por JdeJ editores. En 1984 publico en Toronto, Canada, el poemario "Piel adentro me conozco." En 1985, tambien en Toronto, publico el poemario "Poemas a mi patria ultrajada." En 1987, la Fundacion Dolores Medio, edita la novela galardonada con el premio Asturias, "Un tiovivo para esta Navidad." En 1990 publica en Malaga "El guerrero herido (cronica de una mocion de censura)," Boman S.A., y en 2004 edita la novela historica "La Reina que no quiso reinar," sobre Juana la Loca, VisionNet, Madrid. En 2009, en edicion de autor, publica "Manana volveran a caer las hojas," que acaba de editar en segunda edicion en bubok. Acaba de terminar una novela con la que piensa participar en un premio de novela este ano, y esta participando en otro. En 1979 el grupo de teatro Cardenal Fray Juan de Torquemada (Palencia), estreno su unica obra de teatro, "El trigo y la cizana.""
