About the Book

A guide for dealing with personal crises, either for self-help or as an accompanying book for a course, teaching methods for averting personal crises and for recovering from the ones experienced. It covers the four main areas of life that are the foundation for happiness: mental health, spiritual balance, personal finances, and lawful-ethical behavior. Although this book's audience can include anyone, it is focused on common issues for four main categories of people: adolescents, those afoul of the law, midlifers, and the elderly. Each lesson in the book includes exercises and worksheets to help the reader in several ways:

  • Identify personal risks that can turn into crises,
  • Assess the likely causes of an existing crisis,
  • Formulate strategies for avoiding and managing crises, and
  • Create an action plan for recovering from an ongoing crisis.

These are imparted by four accomplished experts in their fields who give you actionable insights for achieving happiness: Dr. Peter Tarlow, a world-renowned speaker and columnist writing about philosophy and religion, discusses spirituality; Dr. Tom Marrs, a licensed psychologist and behaviorist, shows you what you can do to attain and maintain good mental health; Dr. Eduardo Leite, a management and finances expert, helps you establish essential personal finances; and Nathaniel Tarlow, a successful civil and criminal defense attorney, explains how society and laws affect you before and after a personal crisis.

By the end of Personal Reconstruction, the reader have a good understanding of the psychological, spiritual, financial and legal factors that affect happiness. The reader will also know which actions to take before suffering a crisis, and will have tools and strategies for recovery that can be applied after experiencing a personal crisis that is not averted .

About the Author :
Dr. Peter E. Tarlow is a world-renowned speaker and expert specializing in the impact of crime and terrorism on the tourism industry, event and tourism risk management, and tourism and economic development. He was also the director and rabbi of Texas A&M Hilel for thirty years. Upon retirement he assumed the leadership of the Center for Latino - Jewish Relations. Peter writes a weekly bilingual social religious commentary that is read throughout the United States and Latin American and he also writes a monthly philosophy column for the Bryan Eagle. Peter has been a chaplain for the College Station police department since 1988 In April of 2013, he was asked to accept the role as the Envoy for the Office of Chancellor of the Texas A&M system, John Sharp. In 2015 he began teaching at the Texas A&M Medical School's Department of Humanities, and in 2016, Governor Gregg Abbot of Texas named him as the Chairman of the Texas Holocaust and Genocide Commission. Dr. Tom Marrs grew up in a heavy equipment salvage yard in the small central Texas town of Rockdale. From an early age he had an affinity for the question "why?" which has driven his exploration of human behavior and commonalities in what causes people to get into life crashes. A licensed psychologist, Tom spent 12 years as one of two clinicians providing counseling to over 10,000 employees and their dependents at the Texas A&M University Employee Assistance Program. Tom now has a private practice, and is a human resources specialist, serendipitously, for the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. In his spare time, Tom enjoys travelling with his wife and son, and teaching interpersonal psychology at the Center for Executive Development at the Texas A&M Mays School of Business. Nathaniel "Nate" Tarlow is an attorney and owner of the law firm Tarlow Legal Associates, LLP in Houston, Texas. His practice focuses on criminal defense, and some civil and administrative law matters. Nate's initial working years in a Nevada casino and as a bilingual tour guide at Hoover Dam taught him the value and importance of good people skills and interacting productively with racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse people. As a law student he clerked at a Texas District Court of Appeals, and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award twice. In 2004 he graduated from South Texas College of Law and in 2008 he was honored as one of the top 10 heroes of the Republic of Honduras by the "El Heraldo" newspaper for a legal victory involving a deported Honduran citizen. Nate enjoys scuba diving and the outdoors, and travels the world to learn about law and tourism and how it affects local economies and customs.
