About the Book

Eleven-year-old Alex Peterson may be the least-athletic boy at his school, yet he dreams of accomplishing something "not a whole lot of other people in the world have ever done" a 200-mile, single-day bicycle ride from Seattle to Portland. Alex discovers that if he's to reach even the starting line, he must overcome more than his physical disability. He must also find a way to revive his father's own long-dormant dreams, and convince his dad to join forces with him, before they can achieve together what neither would on his own.

Review :
"A father and son attempt the bike ride of their lives in this inspirational novel. ...An uplifting, freewheeling ode to the bond between a parent and child." - Kirkus Reviews. "Full Cycle is a story of perseverance, of teamwork and of looking beyond a disability to draw upon talents yet untapped. The well-paced story will keep you reading far too late into the night." - Barb Szyszkiewicz, Reviewer's Bookwatch "[A] thoughtful, poignant and ultimately uplifting read. ... [Blunt] uses bicycling as the vehicle to explore coming-of-age themes focused on the burden of maturity and personal growth at every age, with a few surprising and thoughtful twists centered on ability and self-worth. Any reader over the age of ten will find something relatable in Full Cycle." - Ariana Rundquist, Cascade Courier "My pre-teen daughter and I both loved this book! As the mother of an adaptive athlete, I'd like to thank the author for his portrayal of Alex. The way he wrote this character is such a true reflection of the amazing athletes I know: focused, determined, dedicated, and ready to face the world." - Rebecca Frech, author of Teaching in Your Tiara "Full Cycle is a refreshing depiction of a normal home and family life. I particularly liked the depiction of the relationship between Alex and his father, Rob. In an age when there has been such a disconnect between Dads and their families, the book is inspiring, in a simple, natural way. It's a story with many little points of human insight and love that deserve to be savored." - Michael Giesler, author of Junia, Marcus, and Grain of Wheat (Scepter Publishers, New York) "Full Cycle is a story of a father-son relationship, of the importance of working together as a team, and about encouraging our children to reach beyond their limits. It's a wonderful story about focusing on abilities, not disabilities. This would be an ideal novel for a parent and child to read together. Highly recommend." -Ellen Gable, author of In Name Only, A Subtle Grace, Stealing Jenny, and Emily's Hope "I really enjoyed Full Cycle. As an educator, father, and fiction author, I think both young adults and their parents will get a lot out of reading it. A gifted athlete, Alex Peterson is seriously disabled during a foolish dare (and seems to have ruined his life) until he discovers his father's former athletic passion, cycling. I like the way Blunt gets into the interior lives of Alex and Rob, his father, as both struggle against their own pride and laziness to forget about themselves in order to give themselves generously to others. Blunt shows how the ordinary things in life can be made to be quite extraordinary, as Alex sets out to accomplish something 'not a lot of other people in the world have ever done'." -Kevin Aldrich, author of Benjamin and the Paradise Project
