Why Stay We Here?: Odyssey of a Canadian officer in France in World War I

This is a reprint from 2002 of the original 1930 edition. The editor, Robert S. Thomson (Godwin's great-nephew) has added an introduction, historical notes for the text, photos and maps. "Why Stay we Here?" is the sequel to Godwin's "The Eternal Forest" (first published in 1929) which relates his experiences homesteading in the Fraser Valley of British Columbia. About the Author :
George Godwin was born London in 1889. He went to several private schools and did his junior high at a Realschule in Dresden. He left England for British Columbia in 1912 and tried to make a living as a fruit grower. He was unsuccessful financially and returned to England in 1916 and signed up as a lieutenant in the Canadian Infantry. It was only a year before he was invalided out. After the War he studied law on weekends and was soon called to the bar. Although he practiced law and kept chambers at the Middle Temple (about which he wrote a history) the main focus in his life was the twenty books that he wrote. They cover a wide breadth: a history of Captain George Vancouver, a book surmising what Canada's future would be like, "The Great Mystics", Japan's New Order (1942), etc. See www.godwinbooks.com for some free reads.
