About the Book

Second collection from one of The Times' Top Ten Literary Stars, 2008. "Ross Sutherland's poetry approaches the epic; a kind of epic on a human scale. If he were a piece of furniture, he would be an elegant high stool that felt uncomfortable and stylish at the same time." Ian McMillan In this new mini-book, Ross Sutherland presents the poem as honed, stripped and exposed. With trademark wit, Twelve Nudes interrogates the failures of love, exploding the dynamics of text, voice and body. In this elegant but uneasy satire, 'to be naked is to speak without footnotes'. Ross Sutherland was born in Edinburgh in 1979. A former lecturer in electronic literature at Liverpool John Moores University, Ross works as a freelance journalist and tutor in Creative Writing. He was one of The Times' Top Ten Literary Stars of 2008. A founding member of Aisle16, Ross has co-written eight live literature productions, including the critically acclaimed Poetry Boyband and Found in Translation. Ross makes regular appearances at Manchester Literature Festival, Aldeburgh Poetry Festival, Glastonbury, Latitude Festival and venues around the UK. His first collection, Things To Do Before You Leave Town, was published by Penned in the Margins in 2009.

Review :
Sparky, surprising, joyous poetry. - Roddy Lumsden The ingenuity, pace and spiralling development of each piece is akin to improvised comedy [...] Clever and destabilizing, this poetry's voice is abrupt, sometimes rueful. Bracingly unreliable, it fires its statements out with a fluency that persuades you of the mad logic of its universe. On several occasions, it made me laugh out loud. - Poetry London Through humour and punchlines and light absurdism, Sutherland attempts to foreground a human self despite the litany of diagrams and bandwidths and "endless footage" towards the real, or rather an unavoidably fractured version of the real. [...] Engaging, accessible and often very funny. - Sabotage
