About the Author :
Frank was born in 1971 and moved to the UK at the age 5, where he started his training in Bedfordshire, after a friend suggested they attend a class together. To keep each other company. A friend who would later lose his life in a car crash. This class had an immediate impact and he has been training ever since for over 25 years across 3 continents. He became awarded his Black belt after three and half years of training 3 times a week. Teaching in sports centres throughout the UK, Middle East and Europe. Affiliated to Karate England Ltd and Chief Instructor of his own association coaching students of all ages. (ACTIKARATE)Frank has been very fortunate to have been examined by some of the finest British, Japanese and Iranian instructors in the world learning and absorbing delivery styles in the process. Which he extends in his teaching keeping as close as possible to the spirit of the traditional aspects of the art.In 1992 he travelled to Florida, USA were he underwent training as a pilot and Flight Instructor for 2 years, and after successfully completing this returned to the UK for a short while before travelling to the Middle-East to train both at universities, corporate, and military organisations. Improving his ratings on more complex aircraft along the way.Receiving an award from the air force for his attitude towards training was testimony to his style, and meeting the President of the country from whom he received his invitation in the first place, one of the highlights. On his return to the UK he spent a short while "readapting" and then commenced working as a training consultant for major brands and has provided training and coaching to thousands of staff in the corporate sector. His anecdotes and real life examples help him get a "buy in" from people in a way that is both motivational and exciting derived from living and teaching across 3 continents. He enjoys the powerful change in behaviour he instils in people through a unique training style. Frank currently holds the rank of 4th Degree Black Belt in Traditional Sh t kanKarate, and trains 6 days a week, whilst teaching in schools on a daily basis. He also provides karate as an enrichment activity to Youth Offenders via the local County Council and works with other organisations such as Connexions to help teach youngsters self control and discipline via the art.A big part of his time is spent working with Violence Units helping empower women through Karate. This book is now a product of his time spent with these organisations and provides a definitive guide to street self defence training for everyone who would like to improve their knowledge of it.His military background gave him a unique insight into knife handling and disengagement including weapons and tactics. He now shares some of these techniques with the public providing a definitive guide to street self defence for the beginner.
