About the Book

Tony Sharp has been made redundant for a while and has slipped into a cocoon of despair and self pity. His fifty year old wife, Barbara, has had enough of this marriage and is determined to leave him and start a new life as someone completely different. She runs away to a south coast town, hoping for a new job and new friends somewhere he cannot find her. However, when he finds her missing he has the good fortune to head in the right direction and is soon on her trail. Meanwhile she has found a position as a companion to an ex-actress who lives in a strange house near the railway. Barbara explores the house and the room that is sometimes locked and discovers the old lady's secret. Tony decides to sell his house and move to the coast. Meanwhile their daughter is expecting a baby but the father is married. When Tony finds Barbara she runs away - into danger. They all find that running away is not always the answer to their problems.

About the Author :
Julie Christine Round was born in Slough and educated in Middlesex. Her first career was as a schoolteacher in London and then, after her marriage to Ben, in County Durham. Work commitments took the family to Northumberland and Hampshire before they settled in Gillingham in Kent with two sons, Martin and Gordon. It was there that Julie became a County Councillor, but after four years the family were forced to move by the closure of Chatham dockyard. Julie returned to teaching by training as a dyslexic tutor and working with special needs children in a Bromley school. Retirement saw the couple move to Worthing in West Sussex and she began to write novels, while also helping the local Alzheimers Society. The first three novels were written after she had become impressed with the provision for learning disabled people in the area. 'Lane's End , Un-Stable Lane and The Third Lane' are all about a man with learning difficulties and his family. The stories are set mainly in the area of the South Downs and Wales. More recently she recorded 'Lane's End' and became a reader for the talking newspaper group, 'The Voice of Progress.' Her latest novel, 'Never Run Away' is a cautionary tale about seeking change. Julie is a member of the Society of Women Writers and Journalists and a Worthing based group, the Sea Scribes. She enjoys giving talks on her life and works to local societies. Her latest title is "From Manuscript to Microphone." More about Julie can be found on her website www.juliecround.com.

Review :
When we think of runaway persons we usually see them as teenagers. In "Never Run Away," the missing person is Barbara Sharp, a mature married woman whose recently retired husband, Tony, is slow to realise how little he knows about her. Barbara becomes,'Tania baker' and takes advantage of every opportunity. She's resourceful and adaptable. Most notable is her relationship with Ellen Boniface. As he tries to find her tony, ironically, expands his universe. He keeps in touch with their daughter, Carole, and makes friends at various stopovers. Some of his rough edges are smoothed when he gets a job driving a bus where passengers thank him when they get off. The book's title,"Never Run Away," implies that running away is not the best choice - but perhaps there are times when running away leads to new and better lives.
