About the Book

'The Great Karate Myth' is simultaneously a controversial expose, and an instructional manual. It constructively challenges virtually everything the seasoned Karate enthusiast and novice alike may believe about the art of Karate, its origins and its original purpose. If you already practice any of the mainstream Karate styles, (Shotokan, Goju Ryu, Wado Ryu, Uechi Ryu, etc.) after reading this book, you will never view Karate in the same way again! And even if you do not practice Karate, you will find this book to be a fascinating and comprehensive guide to the reality behind the myth that has become Karate. Essential (key) Karate kata, (traditional basic solo training routines) practiced the World over and long assumed to be methods of unarmed self defence, are now proven to be either weapons techniques, performed without the weapons, or grappling techniques, derived from ancient (Ming dynasty) Chinese sources! The current dissatisfaction with unarmed interpretation of these kata, experienced by many disgruntled Karate enthusiasts and modern reformers alike, can now be justified, as 'The Great Karate Myth' is at last unravelled! The bedrock kata of the Worlds major Karate styles are fully presented within, either in their original forms, or properly formatted, with fully restored applications, unavailable elsewhere! Kata is at the heart of true Karate, and a proper understanding of how they are applied is vital for complete mastery of this much misunderstood art. Shrouded in mystery and confusion, remarkably, the proper applications to these, the fundamental and arguably the most important kata, have not seen the light of day for many generations.
