About the Book

'The Potion Maker' begins when Hannah, Ben and Lucy, who are perfectly normal children until this year's holiday with Grandma Fred, are kidnapped by Elfin whose Potion Maker, Dr Herbert Rootvine, has become ill with a deadly fever. The Elfin need the children to make a Cleansing Potion to save them but just how do Hannah, Ben and Lucy decide between Hedgehog Dandruff and Terrapin Tonsils just what exactly to put in a Cleansing Potion? And what if it doesn't work? When the fever is past, the children want to stay and are taken before the Council of Alter-Idem so they may plead their case. The Council take a vote and despite fierce opposition from Hironymus Grossus, tyrannical Goblin Chancellor of Gorgonz City and Quilla Vanepike, manipulative Sprite Chancellor of Puddlelake, the vote goes their way. The intrigue deepens as it becomes clear that the five villages of Aldoris no longer live in harmony and many strange things are happening. Socratown has had its Scales of Balance and Judgement stolen, Sombrono its Vision Ball stolen, Pickletullum its Precious Fires stolen and Puddlelake has a monstrous Terrosaur swimming in its lake which has now eaten all the fish and ducks and everything else that has stupidly wandered too close. The children are set a quest to find the lost sixth key which is needed to complete the Magical Crown of Keys which will choose a new Supreme Parlator to preside over the Council and the villages, and restore harmony once more. But not everyone wants the sixth key found. The children's search for the lost key takes them through the five very different villages, into places no child has gone before, and finally, brings them face to face with the Potion Maker. Ages 8 to 12 years.
