About the Book

This wide-ranging book has an astonishing and ultimately empowering message. It suggests that people and places are 'co-creative'. To put it another way, it suggests that our environment is creating us, even as we are creating it. Michael Warden takes us on a tour of the evidence for a such an idea, from the dawn of history, through Chinese 'feng shui' to the work of contemporary architects, psychologists and leading exponents of the new sciences of systems theory. He underscores his sometimes provocative message with lavish photographic images, drawn substantially from his own exploratory travels, as well as with case studies from his own holistic design practice. Best of all, a synthesis of old and new perspectives begins to emerge - a new vision with the potential to transform our everyday environment and thereby our lives. This book is essential reading, not only for all design professionals, but also for anybody who seeks an understanding of how we are affected by our surroundings. The book has so far received mentions in "Real Homes" magazine, the "Financial Times", "Essentials Magazine", "The Weekly News" (Scotland), and the website and newsletter of Alternatives. Reviews/mentions are currently being negotiated with "The Chronicle" and "Echo" (Northampton), "Image Magazine" (Northampton), as well as a joint promotion with IKEA, initially in the Milton Keynes area. Other PR and publicity plans will be announced soon.

About the Author :
Michael Warden is passionate about the relationships that exist between people and places. He has spent eighteen years exploring how these connections work. In his quest to understand this previously little-recognised dynamic he has travelled widely and studied Eastern and Western disciplines, both ancient and contemporary. He is a respected teacher in the UK, Sweden, Norway and Spain. After 10 years as Chairman and Honorary Chairman of an international feng shui association with more than 150 practitioner-members in 17 countries, he has more recently founded Design Energetics Consulting, with a more multi-disciplinary research remit. Michael's consulting clients include a major property developer, a Relais and Chateaux hotel, as well as numerous businesses and private home owners. He has also taken a leading role in the design of a millionaire mansion built from scratch. Prior to his long research into the connection between 'people and places' he worked as a business analyst for major multinationals, including American Express, BMW, JP Morgan Investment Management and Reuters.

Review :
"The age of mechanism is in decline, and is giving way to a new Philosophy of Life. We cannot truly thrive in a purely mechanistic world and need a new vision of ourselves and our surroundings. Michael Warden's book is a significant contribution to this emerging world-view integrating as it does ancient traditions with modern holistic practices and inviting the reader to become a co-creator of a new and more beautiful built and natural environment with his 'Design Energetics' - a matter of both fresh perception and living architectural principles. A transformational read - David Lorimer, Programme Director, Scientific and Medical Network, editor, "The Spirit of Science" A really important contribution to de-mystifying practical spiritual traditions such as feng shui and integrating them with the design task of creating buildings and human environments that are alive and whole. Distills the essence of a lifetime searching connections between architecture and the forces of the living world often unseen to us - Sym Van der Ryn, Emeritus Professor of Architecture, University of California, Berkeley author, "Design for Life" and "Ecological Design" Makes valuable connections between the important traditional cosmologies of the East and West - Keith Critchlow, Director of Research at the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment and Founder of the Kairos Foundation More than 350 beautifully illustrated pages elaborate on the idea that buildings and environment influence individuals and society ... a diversity of scientific and neo-scientific theories, historical and archaeological findings - Financial Times Delves deeper than simple feng shui - Real Homes Magazine"
