About the Book

Andre Mangeot's long-awaited first full collection, containing 43 of his finest poems to date. Titled "Mixer", each poem begins with a cocktail recipe. The first poem is about opening a bar up in the evening, and the last about closing it at the end of the night, and in between a host of characters enter and leave, telling their stories in Carveresque fashion. This is a truly unique collection.

About the Author :
Andre Mangeot is a professional charity fundraiser who lives and works near Cambridge. His short stories have appeared in London Magazine and his poetry in many British and American journals. In recent years he has won prizes in the Yorkshire, Kent & Sussex and Bridport competitions and been shortlisted for the Blackwells / TLS prize. He is a member of the performance group Joy of Six which has played at venues across England and in New York. A short book of poems, Natural Causes, was published by Shoestring Press in 2003. Mixer is his first full-length collection.

Review :
George Szirtes, poet: It seems there are almost as many cocktails as there are people. The mixers in Andre Mangeot's book are both. There is an element of Raymond Carver about these poems, in their humanity, their poignancy and their story-telling tightness, but there is also something open-weave, light-of-touch, natural and inviting of performance in them. Dylan Thomas and John Berryman enter and leave Mangeot's bar, which is, we feel, a familiar place. But then that is why we, and so many others, are there. R. V. Bailey, poet: His eye is acute -- for poverty, violence, the cruelties of love ... His poetry shakes the ground, as only good poetry does.
