About the Book

The techniques and processes illustrated in this guide will provide essential information, clear instruction and diagrams illustrating the sewing of sample garments made from stretch fabrics. This guide is a 'must have' for the designer and dressmaker. Organised into three sections, the first two lay the foundations needed to understand the processes, equipment and fundamentals of fabrics that stretch. The third section illustrates key construction processes, which have been uniquely demonstrated within twelve garment styles and can easily be adapted to reflect current fashions. Whether you are a creative designer, dressmaker or student, this book is essential to your achievement of professional products and compliments 'The Essential Guide to Stretch Pattern Cutting' from the same series. Contents include: Back neck opening, bound neck and set in sleeves on a body suit with strip gusset. Elasticated waist finish on leggings. Shaped waist finish and pocket flaps on shorts. Neckline finished with bottom cover stitch or piped on a brief body suit. Centre front zipped fly and patch pockets on shorts. Halter neck with gathered seam, elasticated neck or all-in-one neck armhole facing. Internal bra support cut to shape for a swimsuit. Ribbed hem and cuffs on a kimono top with underarm gusset. Preformed bra support in a cropped top. Pre-neatened bra insert in a halter neck bikini. Raglan sleeved dress with a tie collar. Turtle neck collar on a leotard. Janet Ward is the author of several books considered standard reading in fashion colleges and universities around the world. She has extensive experience in garment technology in the fashion industry and education, teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. She was a course director at the London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, where she also designed and delivered short courses for teachers, executives and graduate trainees in industry. At the former London Centre for Fashion Studies now part of Northumbria University, she was Course Director of the Teacher Training course in Fashion. She has also worked in a consultative capacity nationally and internationally in all areas of fashion product development and was part of the research and development team for the National Sizing survey - Size UK.
