About the Book

Track 1 contains "Lupin the Pot-Bellied Pig for Narrator and Wind Quintet" (19'00), composed and story written by Keith Amos. It was narrated on this recording by Geraldine and Lucian Russell-Price. It is a simple comforting story of a warm summer's day on the remote island of Sark, the central character is Lupin, a pot-bellied pig. The story line is happy and rather magical, the music matchingly enchanting. Lupin has her own theme, there is a beautiful pastorale ('Sark Idyll') and for a wild contrast there is a 'Camera Chase'. Lupin's Theme has appropriate lyrics a memorable tune enjoyed by children and adults. Various characters unfold during the story and birds, ducks, chickens are imitated by the five instruments with short solos, making it a wonderful little 'Guide to the Instruments'. Track 2-4 contains "Three instrumental excepts from Lupin the Pot-Bellied Pig" ('Lupin's Song', 'Sark Idyll', 'Camera Chase') from the original work for Narrator and Symphony Orchestra. Track 5-11 contains "The Steadfast Tin Soldier for Symphony Orchestra". From the original work of the same name based on Hans Andersen's fairy tale. Hailed as an obvious successor to 'Peter and the Wolf', these seven pieces include: 'Tin Soldier's Theme' (march), 'Dancer's Theme' (beautiful waltz), 'Canary Song' (jovial ditty), 'Jack-in-the-Box' (rhythmically wickedly witty), 'Rocking Horse' (calming lullaby), 'The Storm' (scary turbulant waters), 'Steadfast Fanfare' (solid brass fanfare). Tracks 12-14 contains "Bah, Humbug!" Three atmospheric excerpts, again from the work for narrator & symphony orchestra, based on 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. 'Scrooge's Theme', a creepy, menacing opening. 'Christmas Music', joyfully evocative. 'Finale' magiaclly transport's the listener to Scrooge's reformed character. This CD is a good introduction to the world of classical music for children and adults.

About the Author :
Keith Amos Born in 1939, in London, Amos graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 1960. Out of step with the then current fashion in classical music, he spent a busy and highly successful 15 years in the world of commercial music. TV, Radio and recording studios were his natural homes, plus many requests for his abilities for West End shows. Composer, arranger, orchestrator and conductor, he benefitted from working alongside the very best writers around at the time. In 1978, his natural inclination for composition regained its rightful place, and he has since written many works for nearly every medium. His music has always adhered to the 2 Holy Trinities: melody, harmony, rhythm and composer, performer, audience. He believes in the interplay of all six, and hasn't been disappointed. One critic amongst many spoke of "Amos' outstanding compositional ability allied to highly imaginative orchestration"

Review :
"... Amos must be congratulated on writing music of such deft atmospheric quality": Musical Times "... this wonderful music protrays the story with enchanting imagination" Rhine-Necker Zeitung " ... 6000 children enjoyed your enchanting music" Ester Lange, Sweden
