About the Book

Vocal, Score for Keyboard, 4-Part Choir & Solo Voices - Libretto, The Story of Life on Earth & The Relationship Between Man & The Other Animals. Further Details on Attached Sheet The oratorio was inspired by my deep concern for those creatures on our planet who happen not to be human beings. I hoped that, by combining a passion with a skill, I could produce a piece of music which, by means of performances, would not only draw attention to the plight of the other animals, but would also benefit financially some of those charities, and there are many, actively involved in their welfare. The oratorio may be performed as a whole, or in part, so long as the money raised goes to at least one animal welfare charity. I DO NOT REQUIRE ROYALTIES! The whole oratorio would take about 90 minutes to perform, so there would need to be an interval. The vocal score is for four-part choir, SATB, soloists and piano, or other keyboard instrument. I recommend that copies of the score be sold at ?10, with some of this going to support animal welfare. THE SUBJECT. Part 1 marvels at the miracle that occurred when living creatures first appeared on Earth. Part 2 is bright and light-hearted, and deals with evolution and the amazing diversity of life forms that appeared. Part 3 deals with the arrival on the scene of the first humans, and how they became the dominant animals. Part 4 describes briefly the wonderful world that was theirs, and part 5, the responsibility of mankind to look after his planet and all its creatures. Part 6 warns of the bleak desolation that would result from man's evil, or even carelessness. Part 7 gives examples of what happens as a result of man's foolish vanity. Part 8 describes man's cruelty, lack of feeling, and lack of understanding, the devilish side of his nature. Part 9 explains that other animals suffer pain and misery due to man's ignorance, because they are more sensitive than many people think. Part 10 describes the cruelty of hunting. Whereas part 9 would rouse anger, part 10 would bring tears. Part 11 claims that all animals have a right to a decent life, which is denied them by some human beings. Part 12 is the story of man's best friend, a collie cross I had from Birmingham Dogs' Home. It expresses the need for all owners to give their faithful companions love and care. Part 13 asks mankind to appreciate and respect his world, lest he destroy it! Part 14 describes the wonders of which man is capable, if only he would use his full potential for good rather than evil. Part 15 dreams of a future world, when man will have lost all his violence, hatred and wickedness, and when all creatures would have their rightful place on Earth, and where everywhere, there would be peace and happiness. The music reflects the moods and sentiments of each part, and so ends on a sweet and cheerful note of optimism.
