About the Book

It's a dark, winter's night and a scruffy black cat arrives on an old lady's doorstep. Named Nicolas because he arrived at Christmas time, he soon makes an impression in the neighbourhood, his bedraggled looks belying his mighty skills as a mouser. Soon, his many exploits are greeted with grateful thanks and much amusement, until, one moonlit night down on the farm, his life takes a very dramatic turn. The setting is fifties Yorkshire and Nicholas has a story to tell and lessons to impart.Inspired by a true story, Nicholas teaches us about fear and loss, courage and hope and the love that community spirit can bring.Enhanced by beautiful black and white illustrations, this story will be suitable for young and old alike.

About the Author :
Nancy Morris was born in Rotherham at the end of the war. Her early life revolved around books and the local library. She grew up in a family where story telling was a regular occurrence. Winters were spent reading and listening to the wireless and summers involved trips to the local woods or the Derbyshire moorlands. Here began her early fascination with the natural world. After school, she trained as a teacher and worked for thirty years in many areas of education , often in inner cities. It was there that she discovered that a good tale can have a powerful therapeutic effect.Following retirement, she decided to study creative writing and literature, eventually gaining an MA in Writing Studies. Folk tales and mythology were of special interest as well as radio drama.Love of the natural world led to her training as an alternative therapist and healer which she still practices on the Fylde coast where she lives with her husband.
