About the Book

The future depends on reconnecting to our past... Do you have the courage to hit the reset button in your life? Does humanity as a whole? Madeleine White's sci-fi novel Mother of Floods immerses the reader in the brave new world of 24/7 self-sustaining algorithms, showing how individual choices can lead to powerful ripple effects-if we are bold enough to collectively remake ourselves and the world around us. In a work that is underpinned by strands of ancient and modern mythology, White explores what it means to be human in the 21st century as digital, physical, and spiritual worlds collide. Mother of Floods is set at the end of our world, and it follows Martha and Dave Johnstone, her dead husband who lives on in digital form, as they embark on a journey to heal their troubled family and overcome mountains of debt. As they receive support from three women from different backgrounds and countries, the interlocking narratives become a battle for the soul of the world, and connections between the spiritual, technological, and human worlds, create a transformative energy that infects the digital world, creating a new kind of being. In other words, the Internet gets a soul. Fans of Paulo Coehlo's The Alchemist and Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments, will enjoy how the impersonal, transactional information superhighway is transformed into a sentient force for good, with the language of electric pulses shaping words of power that convert the thoughts we think into positive changes in our physical world.

Review :
What a remarkable book. Totally different to most anything else I have read. Perhaps the Philip Pullman Northern Lights is as close as I can get but even that is not the same. Would I recommend it? Definitely; a real book group choice. -Sue Lawton MBE, global expert on women and enterprise In writing the Mother of Floods, Madeleine White has marshaled her vivid imagination to challenge our thinking about life as we know it versus life as it might be in the future. She weaves a tale of a new type of digital being who aids seemingly ordinary women in finding their innate wisdom and internal strength, while also developing their deep connection to each other. By doing so, they work together to pull out of the ashes of disconnection and discord a transformed world that is bountiful and loving. As a reader, be prepared for twists and turns that will take you through many countries and cultures and across time, in a tale that will stick with you long after the last page is read. In the end, the reader is left with the reminder that people all want the same thing, regardless of where they live or their station in life-love and personal connection with others. I would recommend Mother of Floods for anyone who wants to enjoy a great story with real impact! -Linda Denny, President Emeritus, Women's Business Enterprise National Council I was transfixed by Mother of Floods and quite simply couldn't put it down. Madeleine White's ability to bring her characters to life in ways where we lose ourselves in them and their stories is exceptional. She is a wonderful and gifted story teller. I can't believe the resonance and the synchronicity of messages that this book brings during these unprecedented times. The supposed end of the world as we know it, the opportunity to come together and reset, and the ripple effect when people and dimensions come collide, merge and transform what has always been. This book is powerful, touching and incredibly thought provoking. I was left wondering what could be if we had the courage and the possibilities were endless. An internet with a soul, just imagine! -Rabia Siddique, best-selling author of Equal Justice: My Journey As A Woman, A Soldier And A Muslim The storyline of Mother of Floods is not something that I would usually have pulled off the shelves as my preferred reading material is usually more thriller or based on scientific fact. However, I was thankfully seduced by the mix of the hard reality of our physical world, the comfort of our spiritual world and the challenges we face with our digital world. I really loved the book and found it an absorbing, thought-provoking and most enjoyable read. -Nicki Hattingh, Film Producer & Dog's Best Friend! I'd never heard of the author before, but I love dystopian fiction and the blurb sounded original, so I decided to give it a go. This is the author's debut and I look forward to reading her next book. The book takes the concept of living in harmony with yourself and the world which I haven't come across. I was impressed by the way the author blends myths, storytelling concepts, speculative fiction and cultural practices. I enjoyed the use of multiple narrators who play small roles individually and much bigger roles collectively. I did have trouble keeping track of all the characters though. The book covers a wide range of subjects I wasn't expecting like death, rape in marriage and abortion. This is impressive and has huge depth. -Pamela Scott, The Book Lover's Boudoir
