Dr Michael Kent is a marine biologist. He has taught outdoor education and biology, and was Coastwatch Co-ordinator for the Nature Conservancy Council, organizing surveys of Cornish estuaries and beaches. He helped to set up the Centre for Applied Zoology at Cornwall College Newquay, and to design and run Foundation degrees in Zoological Conservation and Marine Aquaculture. He is the author of Food and Fitness; The Oxford Dictionary of Sports Science & Medicine, and Advanced Biology (all published by Oxford University Press), and co-author of the Collins Pocket Reference Biology. He was a contributor and adviser to The Oxford Dictionaries of Ecology, Zoology, and Plant Life. Adrian Langdon is a keen photographer, who specializes in nature photography, particularly wild birds in their natural habitats. In 1997 he was awarded an Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS), and in 2002 a Distinction with the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (DPAGB) - both for Nature/Wildlife photography. He is the President and an active member of the Wadebridge & District Camera Club, and Chairman of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust Photographic Group. Many of his photographs have been published in local newspapers and magazines. Adrian is volunteer warden of the Walmsley Bird Sanctuary on the Amble marshes near Wadebridge, and a committee member of the Camel branch of the Cornwall Wildlife Trust.

Review :
'Dr Michael Kent ... has provided an easy-going yet authoritative narrative to accompany Adrian Langdon's startlingly lovely photographs. ...'A fascinating book which will make you want to don your wellies and get out there straight away ... probably one of the best fivers you will spend if you enjoy the country and wildlife.' (North Cornwall Advertiser, June 2007)'a well-designed, appealing, compact book to pop in your pocket if you're heading up that way, cherrypicking the bits that interest you. But it's packed with enough detail to help you plan a few days out in the area in advance' (Western Morning News, 21.07.07) For the full review see Western Morning News online'This is a charmingly presented little book ... Even the most cursory glance will entice the reader to feel the urge to visit the area and examine it anew.'... Dr Michael Kent's professional knowledge of the flora and fauna of his local area is clearly that of an enthusiast and he conveys well the opportunities we can all take to enjoy it. ...'The colour photographs by Adrian Langdon ARPS are excellent ... they stand on their own merits as superb invitations to pocket the book and get over to the Camel.'The quality of the book is up to Alison Hodge's usual exemplary standard.' (Old Cornwall, vol. XIII, no.9, 2007)'... homes in on one of Cornwall's areas of outstanding natural beauty ...'... small but fascinating' (Tavistock Times Gazette, 03.01.08)Pocket Cornwall books were shortlisted in the British Book Design and Production Awards 2008 in the Brand/Series identity category.
