About the Author :
Paul Hyde obtained an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College in 1981. He is a full member of the Institute of Environmental Sciences. He is also a full member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. Paul is a lecturer in higher education where his interests include strategic planning and sustainable tourism. Previously he was an environmental consultant with CSR Network, a strategic consultancy that helps organisations to address the wider corporate social responsibility agenda. He has substantial experience at both operational and strategic levels. Between 1993 and 1998 he was environmental adviser at the Engineering Employers' Federation (now EEF - the manufacturers' organisation), where he co-produced and delivered the first IEMA associate membership training course in 1995. He was also environmental adviser with US oil company Amerada Hess, where he was responsible for producing the 1998 environmental report for the corporation's UK operations. During 2000 he undertook an extended assignment in Brazil, working for Amerada Hess's offshore exploration and onshore supply facilities on environmental management and emergency response. Previous experience also included environmental roles with British Gas, and operational experience with Wiggins Teape Paper. Paul has been actively involved with the development of UK environmental and sustainable development policy, including the work of ACBE. He has also been involved in training on National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health and IEMA environmental courses and the government's Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme workshops for small businesses. He is a full membership grade assessor for IEMA. Paul Reeve graduated in Environmental Science from the University of Sussex in 1981. He is a Fellow of IOSH, a Chartered Chemist and a Fellow of IEMA. Paul's recent experience includes the role of executive director of the Chemical Industries Association's 'Responsible care' initiative, which promotes continual improvement in health, safety and environmental performance. Formerly head of safety and environment at the EEF, he conceived and co-wrote the first course leading directly to associate membership of IEMA. Paul chaired the British Standards Institution's pioneering group on certificated environmental management systems in engineering and, which the government's 'Envirowise' programme, has compiled guidance on implementing environmental management systems for that sector. Paul has considerable experience of conducting environmental reviews and supporting companies in obtaining ISO 14001. Recent work has involved the development of environmental improvement and 'green transport' plans, and advising on the integration of health, safety and environmental management systems. He is also an experienced trainer on Institution of Occupational Safety and Health and IEMA courses. He has been actively involved in the development of policy on sustainable development within industry, and has chaired the Engineering Council's environmental sustainability awards panel. Paul has also advised the 'Envirowise' programme and the Thames Valley regional committee of the Environment Agency.
