One of 101 titles in the St. Joseph Picture Book Series, this book by popular author Father Lovasik S.V.D., provides children with an explanation of the apparition of Our Lady in Guadalupe, Mexico. The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe is an important and beloved part of the Catholic faith, especially in Mexico. It began in 1531 when a humble Aztec man named Juan Diego saw a vision of a beautiful woman on a hill near Mexico City. She appeared to him as a young woman with dark skin, wearing clothes that looked like those of the native people. She told Juan Diego that she was Mary, the mother of Jesus, and asked him to tell the local bishop to build a church on that hill.

When Juan Diego told the bishop, he didn't believe him at first. So Mary gave Juan Diego a sign. She told him to gather roses from the hilltop, which was amazing because it was winter, and roses didn't usually grow at that time. When he brought the roses to the bishop, they spilled from his cloak, revealing a miraculous image of Mary on the fabric.

This image of Our Lady of Guadalupe became a symbol of love, unity, and protection for the people of Mexico and beyond. Mary's appearance as Our Lady of Guadalupe reminds Catholics that God loves everyone, no matter their background or heritage. Today, people pray to her for help, comfort, and healing, especially during difficult times. Her feast day, December 12, is celebrated with joy, showing the deep love and devotion people have for her and her message of peace.
