About the Book

Before Jesus broke the bread, he blessed it. In the age of social media, where people's lives are curated to show only their best and most beautiful selves, it is easy for an individual person to believe that they are the only one who is broken. The truth is that everyone is broken and in need of God's blessing. No one has it all together; no person is perfect. In essays both humorous and achingly vulnerable, author Ryan Casey Waller urges readers to join him in pouring out their brokenness, not just to God but to each other. Waller takes readers through the trials of following Jesus during seasons of doubt and disbelief, anger, shame, and even hate, but always comes back to the amazing news that Jesus blessed the bread before he broke it. Through Jesus, brokenness is blessed, wounds healed, and hearts made whole.

About the Author :

Review :
Ryan Waller is a gifted story-teller, a practical theologian, and a lover of people. He practices what he preaches. Namely, that our vulnerability is the gateway to hope and healing. Something sacred happens when we make ourselves vulnerable to one another - we connect, he writes. And in connection, we find healing and life. Ryan brings a much-needed gift to the church today - a powerful message of hope that begins with the recognition of our brokenness. A place where we all can begin. --Jeff Warren Broken is what we all are--no exceptions--and Ryan Waller calls us deftly, gently, winsomely to this admission through biblical vignettes and life reflections. Though we are broken, yet there is hope. In each chapter, Waller offers words of hope rooted in Jesus Christ and in our common humanity when shared with one another. --Pricilla Pope-Levison Ryan has given us a gift in the stories that fill these pages. Eloquent and accessible, honest and insightful, Ryan gives us permission to tell the truth about our doubts, fears, and struggles. His vulnerability reminds us that Christianity is for those of us who feel lost. And his sense of hope encourages us to acknowledge our brokenness, because there we find grace. --Julie Rodgers
