About the Book

This staff training DVD features scenes of adolescents participating in group sessions for each of Aggression Replacement Training's three interventions. Viewers will see: Ellen McGinnis leading a prosocial skills training group Eva L. Feindler conducting an anger management session Mark Amendola and Robert Oliver facilitating a moral reasoning group A copy of the Aggression Replacement Training program book accompanies the DVD. The video begins with Mark Amendola describing ART's three-part intervention—Prosocial Skills Training, Anger Control, and Moral Reasoning. He discusses why the ART approach is so effective in working with aggressive youth. Viewers will see scenes of adolescents participating in group sessions for each of the three interventions. Prosocial Skills—Ellen McGinnis conducts a social skills training session and leads the group through the steps involved in Skillstreaming, from defining the skill through role playing and homework assignments. Anger Control—Eva Feindler conducts an anger management session, leading the group through identifying triggers, physical cues, anger reduction techniques, and self-instructional reminders. Moral Reasoning—During a moral reasoning training group, Mark Amendola and Robert Oliver facilitate the group's discussion and resolution of a moral dilemma.

About the Author :
Mark Amendola, L.S.W., B.C.D. (Social Work, Case Western Reserve University, 1989), has had extensive experience in work with adolescent disorders since 1981. Beginning on the front lines as a child care worker in a residential setting, he has moved to various positions to include day treatment, partial hospitalization, and community-based programming. Currently he is the Executive Director of Perseus House, a non-profit, designed to provide preventative and intervention services to children ages birth – 18. He also maintains a clinical practice that focuses on adolescent disorders and familial conflict. Mark serves in various community capacities in Pennsylvania and nationally, including previous board affiliation with Community House for Women, and with Children and Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder (CHADD). Mark’s work has focused on the delivery of services to troubled and troubling young people and families in an effort to improve their quality of life. Dr Eva L. Feindler is Director of the Clinical Psychology Doctoral Program and professor of psychology, specializing in cognitive-behavioral interventions with children and adolescents, adolescent anger control, and family violence. Current scholarly and research interest include RCT (Relational Cultural Theory) and clinical supervision. She received her Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 1979 and her New York State Certification in Psychology in 1981. Dr. Feindler has been a member of the New York State Board of Psychology and the State Department of Education since 1989. She has also served as a board member with the Suffolk County Headstart Mental Health Advisory Board, the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy Annual Convention in Washington, D.C., the Advisory Board of the Nassau County Psychological Association, the APA Commission on Violence and Youth and the Nassau County Services to Rape Victims. She has worked as a consultant with the Adolescent Anger Control Project at Sagamore Children's Center, Melville, New York, the APA Task Force on Violence and the Family, and the New York City Public Schools, District 75. She has also served on the editorial board of Criminal Justice and Behavior since 1992. She has presented papers and conducted workshops both in the United States and in Canada, as well as on national TV and at Riker's Island. Dr. Feindler is the founder and director of Teen Speakout and has managed the program for the past 14 years. She is a founding board member of ICART: International Center for Aggression Replacement Training. Dr Ellen McGinnis earned her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa in 1986. She holds degrees in elementary education, special education, and school administration. She has taught elementary and secondary students in the public schools in Minnesota, Iowa, and Arizona. In addition, she has served as a special education consultant in both public and hospital schools and as assistant professor of special education at the University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire, USA. Dr. McGinnis also served with the Des Moines Public Schools as the principal of the education program at Orchard Place, a residential and day treatment facility for children and adolescents with emotional/behavioral disorders. She has been an executive director of student support services in both Iowa and Colorado and is currently a private consultant. The author of numerous articles on identifying and teaching youth with emotional/behavioral disorders, Dr. McGinnis collaborated with Dr. Arnold P. Goldstein on earlier Skillstreaming books and is author of the newly released third editions of Skillstreaming in Early Childhood, Skillstreaming the Elementary School Child, and Skillstreaming the Adolescent. Dr Robert Oliver, Chief Educational Officer of Perseus House Charter School of Excellence, has served in varied capacities, especially those including educational, residential, and partial hospitalization services. He also was a foster parent for Erie County Office of Children and Youth for 15 years. Bob serves as a board member of the Boys & Girls Club and the Erie Earn-It Program of Juvenile Probation. He is also a member of the Children & Youth Advisory Board, Erie County, USA.
