About the Book

This collection of papers is from the Engineering Foundation Conference on Critical Issues in the Development of High Temperature Structural Materials held in Kona, Hawaii, March 7-14, 1993. The book focuses on the current status of research and development of superalloys, refractory metals, intermetallic compounds, ceramics and composites based upon ceramics or intermetallics. Discussion ranges from basic science through processing and mechanical properties. Current applications of superalloys and refractory metals, as well as future applications for new composite and intermetallic materials are discussed, along with the need to reduce development costs.
