About the Book

Advances in Motor Learning and Control surveys the latest, most important advances in the field, surpassing the confines of debate between proponents of the information processing and dynamical systems. Zelaznik, editor of the Journal of Motor Behavior from 1989 to 1996, brings together a variety of perspectives. Some of the more difficult topics-such as behavioral analysis of trajectory formation and the dynamic pattern perspective of rhythmic movement-are presented in tutorial fashion. Other chapters provide a foundation for understanding increasingly specialized areas of study.

He also has written on bimanual coordination in collaboration with E.A. Franz and G. McCabe. Zelaznik earned his PhD in physical education from the University of Southern California in 1978. From 1986 to 1989 he was section editor on motor control for the Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. Review :
" ""This is a well conceived and edited volume that should be a valuable resource for researchers and students alike. It covers essential topics in the study of motor learning and control, and presents an excellent primer for each. For those with expertise in motor learning and control, this book will provide an opportunity to get updated in topics and issues that may be peripheral to their own area of study or research. Seldom is this possible in one volume. The book is unique in its focus on essentials. The topics covered and the content of each topic presents the reader with the information needed to gain an understanding of the primary issues in motor learning and control, and the critical concerns of each issue."" Richard A. Magill, PhD Professor of Kinesiology Louisiana State University "
