About the Book

This is the second edition of a book first published in 1993, devoted entirely to eating disorders in childhood and adolescence. The editors have have both worked in the field for 15 years and have unrivalled experience of this particular population. Topics covered include an overview of eating disorders in this population, epidemiology, aetiology, prognosis and outcome, assessment (both physical and psychosocial) and management, including specific types of therapy. Additional chapters deal with schooling and ethical and and legal issues. There are also contributions by a young person who had an eating disorder as a child and the mother of a young sufferer.

Review :
"This is a comprehensive book, suitable for a wide range of professionals who deal with children and adolescents with eating disorders. It is clearly written and refers to known research in this area as well as offering practical guidance on assessment and management based on a depth of experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital." -Anne Stewart, The Warneford Hospital, Oxford "This is an unusually successful book as it has the coherence of a single authored book, but with the range of expertise, ideas, and creativity of a multiauthored book. It is a brilliant tribute to team work. The multifaceted nature of eating disorders requires a wide range of expertise and this is certainly found in this book with contributions from psychiatry, psychology, physiotherapy, teaching, internal medicine, radiology, and various forms of therapy, family work, individual therapy, and cognitive-behavioural therapy. There have been rapid changes in the field in terms of aetiological and treatment research and so the updated second edition is to be welcomed." -Janet Treasure, Institute of Psychiatry, London
