Review :
nicely laid out
good use of graphics, suggest making them available free of copyright so teachers can use them in teaching materials.
good to have Teachers′ standards at start of chapter and M Level extensions at end.
will suggest as example of texts designed for ITT students as part of discussion of support for teachers if library funds permit This continues to be a useful resource for trainees to further their own knowledge and understanding whilst preparing to teach science at primary. The key thing here is that this edition is linked the new Teachers′ Standards, which makes previous editions redundant from September 2012.

Built on earlier editions, this has almost become ′THE′ book for primary trainees, whichever training route they are taking and whatever their competency levels in Science.

My only criticism is the absence of STEM (not stems which are in the index!) This seems a strange omission with the growing importance of this group of subjects that includes Science
an explanation of all areas of learning are discussed A must for any student who needs focus on identifying which areas of science they need to develop. Language used is accessible to any non-scientist. A must for any student who needs focus on identifying which areas of science they need to develop. Language used is accessible to any non-scientist. Useful support for students who lack confidence in this subject area. The understanding of Science topics in KS 2 and the development of cognitive skills supporting mechanical systems understanding, is important for teachers in aligned subjects to appreciate: This book succeeds in this. Useful text to support primary teachers in planning and delivering CfE. This is a core text for the Primary PGCE science students. It gives the core and essential knowledge which many lack coming into the course. Those wishing to teach secondary science need to have a firm grounding in the formative years preceding the secondary phase. This book is a a very good starting point. Our cohort are pointed to this text as thet train for both middle and secondary school education. A strong feature of this book is its clear links to teacher standards and the clear summary of key points in each chapter. I also like the addition of further reading material. An excellent source in supporting personal knowledge and understanding of Science within the National Curriculum. very accessible text for under graduate use covering key principles and practices in primary science This is a useful book which I will suggest as an option for students to buy if they need support with their Science knowledge. This book has been well received by students for its clarity of subject knowledge presentation and links to recent research. This book has been recommended to students on BA Primary as a useful text to support their science modules Clear and explicit outline of the knowledge and understanding needed to teach science in the primary school. Promoting depth of knowledge and therefore improving teaching and learning. Essential knowledge for all primary teachers. The primary team decided to go with other books Have added this as recommened supplementary reading for third year primary science course. A good structure especially useful for those who needed extra support A useful book which supports trainees in the development of their subject knowledge. Ideas are easy to access and those presented are the essential elements. A good reference book particularly useful for students not confident in teaching primary science. Easy to use quickly for reference purposes. Students tell me it has helped in preparation for lessons given at short notice during teaching placements.
