About the Book

William Booth - pawnbroker's assistant, firebrand preacher, advocate of women's rights, friend of the poor, confidant of statesmen, politicians and royalty, father of eight children, champion of the marginalised, and founder and first General of The Salvation Army. General Booth's courage, oratory and passion changed Victorian Britain. He resolutely ignored his critics - including those who decried him as the Anti-Christ - and reached out to those who considered themselves well outside the concern of Almighty God. Prayer and practicality were his hallmarks: he ridiculed the idea of preaching to a beggar while that beggar was cold and hungry. William Booth worked tirelessly, campaigning, researching, negotiating, adapting music-hall songs - and writing. This book introduces us to his heart and convictions. Here we find the urgency, thought and humanity which drove him on.

About the Author :
Stephen Poxon is a member of The Salvation Army, and is engaged in freelance writing projects. He was educated at St. Andrew's College, North Yorkshire, England, and Wycliffe Hall, a private college of the University of Oxford.

Review :
“There are some people in history who talk of changing the world. Others actually do it. William Booth is not only the later, but also the founder of The Salvation Army (an international movement of two million soldiers marching to the beat of Isaiah 58). He is a visionary for the whole church. His ability to see into the future and pull down a new thing for the rest of us to live is the stuff of prophets and apostles. If there is a voice for our day and our time, bringing social reform and spiritual passion together in a cataclysm of Kingdom Come it's William Booth. I recommend you listen and learn and live out all that Booth saw that is still to come.” “William Booth was a cataclysmic catalyst for revolutionary change in the spiritual realm, in social welfare, and in the world of justice, always dangerously underrated and still not effectively imitated. 'Through The Year With William Booth' will be a cataclysmic catalyst for revolutionary change in your life - in the spiritual realm, in social action, and in the fight for justice.” “William Booth was first of all a preacher and a student of the Bible. Through a long life devoted to reaching the unconverted, William also poured his heart out in writings which today help us to understand this great man’s vision. Stephen Poxon has quite brilliantly linked William’s words to Scripture giving us a most worthy contribution to our personal devotions.” “A glorious treasure trove of daily prayers and readings from the pen of William Booth … a superb anthology of devotional gems.”
