It bridges the gap between physical and biological aspects of organic chemistry, introducing physical organic chemists to new mechanistic problems in biology, and encouraging a more rigorous mechanistic approach in bioorganic chemists. It also demonstrates the relevance of new thinking in physical chemistry, drawing upon a variety of current mechanistic themes.
