About the Book

The third edition of this textbook has been rewritten and updated to take account of the issue of "Auditing Standards and Guidelines and further Accounting Standards", as well as the enactment of the Companies Act 1981. The book looks at the theory and practice of auditing, covering the objectives and principal characteristics of an audit, the rights and duties of the auditor and the choices as to the audit approach to be adopted. The audit considerations relevant to the main classifications of assets and liabilities, as well as the profit and loss account, are covered. There is a separate chapter outlining the characteristics of different kinds of business and how these affect the application of audit procedures. Appendices include examples of audit documentation including part of an internal control questionnaire for a computer-based system. This book should be of interest to accounting students at intermediate and final level.
