About the Book

It is well recognized that the mechanical performance of materials is dependant upon the composition of their microstructures. By judiciously adjusting the composition new properties can be developed. This comprehensive new book evaluates the microstructure-property relationships of various ceramic-matrix composites. Organized into five sections, it examines fibre, whisker, and particulate-reinforced ceramic composites; graded and layered composites; nanostructured ceramic composites; and refractory and specialty ceramic composites, such as magnesia-spinel composites; superplastic ceramic composites; oxide-carbon metal systems; and highly porous carbon-carbon composites.
