About the Book

Renowned architect Douglas Wright fills his beautifully designed debut book with recent highlights from his stunning portfolio of new houses and renovated dwellings. Wright’s architecture, based in classical tradition and steeped in the historical continuum, has an effortless appeal that crosses styles and periods.

Wright has captured the attention of design aficionados with his breathtaking architectural spaces informed by the spirit and lessons of historical, vernacular, and modern styles for today. Each of the presented residences—from a Queen Anne–style house and a seaside Shingle-style cottage to a modern beach house, a Frank Lloyd Wright–inspired retreat, and a McKim, Mead & White city apartment—is paired with Wright’s painted and penciled sketches, along with floor plans, all of which demonstrate his facility with the history of ornament and contemporary currents. Wright frequently collaborates with the country’s most esteemed interior designers, including Bunny Williams, Cullman & Kravis, Brian J. McCarthy, and the late Amy Lau. Sophisticated yet approachable, Wright’s architecture will tour the reader through the legacy of great buildings and outstanding craftmanship reinterpreted for the contemporary sensibility.

Architectural Digest Best Fall Books: I love an inspirational design book but I’m equally drawn to books with real nuts-and-bolts wisdom. Interior Design Master Class: 100 Rooms feels like the design education I never got—a smart compendium of insights from 100 top designers. Frances Merrill talks kitchens, Hendricks Churchill discusses the finer points of layering, Jessica Davis explains how to mix tile. It would make an excellent gift for anyone who cares about interiors.

"Sometimes the best way to find out how a room came together is to hear directly from the person responsible. To that end, author Carl Dellatore has reached out to Katie Ridder, Miles Redd, Suzanne Kasler, Bunny Williams, and a host of other top interior designers and asked them to write about some of their projects and the creative processes that helped them achieve their goals. Organized by type of room – living spaces, porches and entries, bedrooms and sitting areas, dining areas and bars, and kitchens and baths – the book is an elegant guide on how to live a stylish life in every square inch of your home." — INTELLIGENCE COLLECTOR

"This room-by-room guide, which functions as a companion piece to Interior Design Master Class: 100 Rooms, features advice from 100 designers covering every aspect of how to transform a house into a stylish home. Complete with insider tips on designing and decorating, it’s an ideal blueprint for every aspect of your living space. From transitional areas such as entryways and porches to entertaining spots like bars and dining rooms, examples are provided to elevate each one. Based on their appearances in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, and Southern Living, the roster of celebrated designers will also impress. Readers will enjoy access to a range of helpful insights about everything from the importance of bedroom lighting courtesy of Suzanne Kasler to developing the perfect color palette for a vibrant living room from Katie Ridder—plus an essay on tables from Mark Sikes." — BOSTON MAGAZINE
