About the Book

Nicole Hollis's residential and hospitality projects reflect her approach to connecting architecture and interior design to the natural surroundings. For this beautifully produced book, Nicole shares her holistic design philosophy for the home, which thoughtfully balances a modern spirit of innovation with a timeless reverence for great craftsmanship. She masterfully blends the simplicity of line with organic complexity to create warm, refined spaces. Featured is a wide range of recent West Coast and Hawaiian residences in urban, rural, and oceanside settings. A striking Thousand Oaks home has soaring ceilings and a colour palette that drew inspiration from the dusty pale jade eggs of the family's Araucana chickens. A Kona Coast property set on a lava field reimagines a Hawaiian open-plan sanctuary with a modern design scheme of rich textures and surfaces, including lava basalt floor tiles and coral wall blocks. Michele Oka Donner's lighting employs the shape of branches of the indigenous Kiawe tree. A San Francisco pied-à-terre is an elegant contrast study in black and white, infused with historical nuances, and a materials palette of marble, porcelain, lacquer, and wood. Nicole's sleek, yet traditional, San Francisco townhouse is a redo of the former home of noted architect Julia Morgan. Many of these residences are being published for the first time in this book. The curated spaces feature art, found objects, and bespoke furnishings that underscore Nicole's appreciation of texture, craft, and natural beauty. This inspirational tome will demonstrate how the NicoleHollis design methodology brings together site, structure, and interiors.

Review :
"Modern sensibility meets traditional details in the design work of Nicole Hollis, whose debut book is a treasure trove of her delightfully elegant, understated interiors." — House Beautiful   "The book explores a slew of Northern California residences, as well as a handful of homes in Hawaii that represent Hollis's signature style. Nicole has a penchant for mixing old pieces with new and playing with darker palettes to curate artful, moody homes" — Business of Home   “A testament to this quality, the designer’s first book, NICOLEHOLLIS: Curated Interiors (Rizzoli), features some of her most tranquil and inspiring interiors from Los Angeles to Napa Valley and Hawaii." — Galerie   "With an introduction by Pilar Viladas and photography by Douglas Friedman and Laure Joliet, it's a beautiful ode to Hollis's various projects. Part of what makes the book so intriguing is the chance to see more of her designs in Marin County, California; Hawaii; and beyond" — AD Pro                       "In her new monograph, NICOLEHOLLIS: CURATED INTERIORS (Rizzoli), the San Francisco-based designer highlights her crisp, edited spaces. Hollis's distinctive brand of calm is on full display" — ist Dibs                       “San Francisco-based designer Nicole Hollis is always trying to unify the interiors of the homes she designs with the great outdoors. That spirit animates her new book, NICOLEHOLLIS: CURATED INTERIORS (Rizzoli), which features residences designed by Hollis in Hawaii and California. " —Elle Decor                       "Design ideas and inspiration are just a page away." —At Home   "The new book is a greatest hits of Hollis’ residential work thus far: from her own Pacific Heights Italianate, a showstopper cloaked in Benjamin Moore’s Black Tar, to a Kona Coast property with lava-basalt floor tiles and coral wall blocks." —C: California Style Magazine                       "A wide range of residences in city, country, and coastal settings that masterfully mix the simplicity of line with organic complexity to create refined spaces are featured in this inspirational volume." —Society Texas   "We could not be more excited for the release of a design book as we are for NICOLEHOLLIS: CURATED INTERIORS which provides an in-depth look into several of the most stellar examples of her work. From the city to the country and remote coastal settings, the book shows her ability to blend the simplicity of line with organic complexity.” —California Home Design   "NICOLEHOLLIS: CURATED INTERIORS is absolutely stunning." —Splendid Sass
