Modern Pipefitter's Manual

A pipefitter is a tradesperson who installs, assembles, fabricates, maintains, and repairs mechanical piping systems. Piping can consist of copper, PVC, CPVC, polyethylene, and galvanized pipe, which is typically glued, soldered, or threaded. Plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters learn on the job through an apprenticeship, but also go through licensing and accreditation. According to the Occupations Handbook, there are at least 950,000 pipefitting jobs in 2018. The pipefitting industry is expected to grow 21% from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. Construction of buildings and the need for new septic and mechanical systems should drive demand for qualified workers. About the Author :
Rex Miller is professor Emeritus of Industrial Technology at State University of New York, College at Buffalo, and has taught technical courses on all levels from high school through graduate school for over 40 years. This includes the supervision of construction of six houses across the spectrum in size and complexity. This also includes the construction of a house from his own prints and design. He is experienced in plumbing and electrical work. Dr. Miller is author or co-author of over 100 textbooks and a like number of magazine articles. His books include McGraw-Hill's Carpentry and Construction, Electricity and Electronics for HVAC and Industrial Electricity and Electric Motor Controls. Mark R. Miller is Professor and Coordinator of Industrial Technology at The University of Texas at Tyler.
