About the Book

To understand what it means to discover truth, to act in freedom, to be creative, to live authentically, and to aspire to transcend the time and space dimension is the intent of this book. The subject is treated thematically through the analysis of the opposites of materialism and immaterialism with a reconciliation of the two in selected traditional and contemporary philosophies.

About the Author :
The Author: Dr. Steger received a doctorate in philosophy from The Catholic University of America and is now a professor at St. John's Unversity. Published works include treatises on epistemology, esthetics, and Zen Buddhism. Dr. Steger has applied philosophy to such practical undertakings as peace corp volunteer work in Latin America and the Far East, architectural design and construction, as well as art projects, having received an International Grumbacher Award for painting.

Review :
Dr. Steger weaves together the findings of the empirical sciences into a coherent and exciting vision of human nature. With many references to both traditional and contemporary philosophy the author presents a provocative and stimulating portrait of personal existence. Students who read and reflect on the contents should benefit greatly. (Robert Lauder, St. John's University) 'The Many Dimensions of the Human Person' is a very comprehensive analysis, and since it examines critically various opinions regarding the nature of man and human behavior, it could well cause some scholars to consider the acceptableness of their own opinions and create some new thinking on the subject. It presents a very valuable historical display of the various approaches taken to account for the activities of 'the self'.(John P. Rowan)
