About the Book

Ultra-Brief Cognitive Behavioral Interventions showcases a new practice model to address both physical and psychological health issues in mental health and integrated care settings, utilizing focused interventions in brief treatment formats. This unique text offers a toolkit of effective interventions and methods – including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) methods that can be used in a very brief time frame of 10–20 minutes – that can be quickly and efficiently applied to ameliorate specific symptoms. The 20 most common interventions in short-term therapy practiced in mental health and integrated care settings are illustrated in session transcriptions of the full course of focused therapy, with common presentations such as depression, anxiety and acute distress, pain, sleep problems, and weight problems. This book prepares emerging and experienced counselors and therapists to provide short-term therapy for their clients and equips them with the necessary skills to meet the challenges facing mental health care today and in the future.

Review :
"In Ultra-Brief Cognitive Behavioral Interventions, Drs. Sperry and Binensztok offer a remarkably timely, practical, and important contribution for students and health and mental health professionals. In our current and future health care marketplace clinicians need to be able to provide very brief, evidence based, practical, and efficacious treatments for their clients and patients and this book will help them to do so. It highlights the most common clinical presentation: mood, sleep, eating, and pain problems. This is one of those books that should be in the hands of all clinicians and I’m sure that my copy will be worn out rather quickly." Thomas G. Plante, PhD, Santa Clara University & Stanford University Medical School "Ultra-Brief Cognitive Behavioral Interventions is unique in that it presents an effective way to implement rapid evidence-based treatments using an innovative approach called Pattern Focused Therapy. The book is a gold-mine of CBT techniques clearly defined with explicit examples that will enable readers to quickly master the approach. Tables outlining specific assessment questions for a wide variety of client problems are provided along with practical worksheets for homework assignments. If you want to learn how to become a more effective therapist, read this book!" Brian A. Gerrard, PhD, Western Institute for Social Research & University of San Francisco
