About the Author :

Review :
"Skip Morris has written numerous books on fly tying and fly fishing, and like the pro he is, in "The Salmonfly," he systematically explains to readers a lot more than just the basics of this famous Western hatch--a hatch that sometimes fails to live up to anglers' expectations. Part of the appeal of the book, in fact, is its explanation of why that failure happens and its advocacy of the best alternative: fishing the Golden Stonefly hatch that occurs more or less simultaneously, more reliably, with a larger population of naturals, and over a wider range of rivers."--Bud Bynack""California Fly Fisher"" (05/01/2015) ""The Salmonfly" is my favorite sort of book: small, tightly written around a single important subject, in fine prose, and with photos that are even better. When Salmonfly or Golden Stone nymphs migrate, or adults are on the wing, trout are seldom interested in eating anything else. If you don't know what to do about them, you're going to catch far more frustration than trout. Skip Morris's book tells you what to do. He's done it again--this book is unfair to the trout."--Dave Hughes"author, "Trout Flies" and "Pocketguide to Western Hatches"" (10/01/2014) "If anyone has covered the Salmonfly and related stoneflies better than Skip Morris has in this little book I haven't seen it. Their biology, habitat, tactics, patterns, and tackle all get Skip's careful attention. And you might just find that what he has to say will help you catch more fish even when Salmonflies aren't around. A most helpful and interesting guide to one of the iconic hatches of North America."--Rick Hafele"author, "Nymph-Fishing Rivers and Streams"" (10/01/2014) "Skip Morris's latest book is the most thorough treatment of the big western stoneflies yet to hit print. Written in a very accessible style, "The Salmonfly" covers not only the eponymous insect but also its cousin the Golden Stonefly, which often hatches in the same rivers at about the same time. Starting with the bugs' basic biology, the book then moves to what will be the heart of the matter for most anglers: how to fish these often puzzling hatches. When should you fish the dry fly, or in what circumstances will nymphing be more profitable? Using what gear and which techniques? Where in the river should you concentrate your casts? This book covers it all, in depth. Of particular interest to many fly fishers will be the last section on fly selection, given Skip's well known expertise as a fly tier. This is a book that belongs on the bookshelf of every angler who fishes the big western bug hatches, or aspires to."--Arlen Thomason"author, "BugWater"" (10/01/2014)
