About the Book

This collection of essays from scholars in various disciplines explores various postmodern and poststructuralist aspects of Greenaway's films, starting with The Falls and his early shorts, and ending with The Pillow Book. Other artistic productions, including his paintings and the installation The Stairs are discussed as well.

About the Author :
Paula Willoquet-Maricondi is Assistant Professor of Film Studies, Media Arts Program, School of Communications and the Arts, Marist College. Mary Alemany-Galway is currently a Lecturer in Media Studies at Massey University in New Zealand. She is also author of A Postmodern Cinema: The Voice of the Other in Canadian Film (Scarecrow Press, 2002).

Review :
"Eleven essays consider Greenaway's films, each entering on a different aspect of his postmodern style. These include his neo-baroque imagery, the influence of the French New Novel, the presence of ambivalence, and the crisis of commentary. Among the works discussed are The Falls, The Draughtman's Contract, Prospero's Books, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover, and The Pillow Book. Two of Greenaway's own texts and two interviews with him are also included. A chronology of his work is featured." --2001, Reference and Research Book News "Regardless of the level of interest in Greenaway and his work, scholars of poststructuralism or postmodernism will find scores of enticing ideas throughout this anthology." --Film-Philosophy
