About the Book

In "The Evolving Landscape" Martin J. Pasqualetti brings together for the first time the collected writings of one of 20th-century America's master geographers, Homer Aschmann. Combining encyclopaedic knowledge with unquenchable curiosity, Aschmann radiates an obvious affection for being out of doors as he guides us across landscapes to discern the interplay of climate, history, topography, soils and vegetation. In settings as diverse as Los Angeles, Baja California, Arizona, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia and the Canary Islands, Aschmann demonstrates the contribution a geographer can make in explaining environmental change.

About the Author :
Martin J. Pasqualetti is professor of geography and Faculty Fellow for Natural Resources and the Environment at Arizona State University. He edited the collection 'Nuclear Decommissioning and Society'.

Review :
"For the first time, we have in one finely edited volume Homer Aschmann's exemplary work in cultural geography, in which he explores themes of historical and contemporary interest with a depth and clarity that only a scholar of his standing can muster."--Yi-Fu Tuan, University of Wisconsin, Madison "Homer Aschmann was one of those legendary larger-than-life characters one reads about but seldom encounters in the flesh. While his interests and enthusiasms transcended any single academic field, within geography the range and variety of things he studied and wrote about exceeds the record of anyone else in the profession. In fact, Homer embodied all those qualities one dreams of finding in the Compleat Geographer. Dip into this volume, and be prepared to be surprised, enlightened, and delighted."--Wilbur Zelinsky, Pennsylvania State University "Aschmann succeeded precisely because he studied not merely the terrain but also the culture of its inhabitants; it was the human aspect of the problem that engaged his attention."--John Brinckerhoff Jackson, from the Foreword
