About the Book

This phenomenal New York Times bestseller is an exposé of international corruption and an inspired plan to turn the tide for future generations. John Perkins was an economic hit man. His job was to convince countries that are strategically important to the United States, from Indonesia to Panama, to accept enormous loans for infrastructure development, and to make sure that the lucrative projects were contracted to US corporations, such as Halliburton and Bechtel. Saddled with huge debts, these countries came under the control of the US government, World Bank, and other US-dominated aid agencies that acted like loan sharks, dictating repayment terms and bullying foreign governments into submission. Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is the story of one man's extraordinary experiences inside the international intrigue, greed, corruption, and little-known government and corporate activities that America has been involved in since World War II--and which have dire implications for American democracy and world freedom.

About the Author :
John Perkins was formerly chief economist at a major international consulting firm where he advised the World Bank, United Nations, IMF, US Treasury Department, Fortune 500 corporations, and governments in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Since then, his books on economics and geopolitics have been New York Times bestsellers and sold more than one million copies. He has lectured at more than fifty universities around the world. He has been featured on ABC, NBC, CNN, NPR, A&E, the History Channel, Time, New York Times, Washington Post, Cosmopolitan, Elle, Der Spiegel, and others, as well as in numerous documentaries. He is a founder and board member of nonprofits devoted to establishing a world our children will want to inherit. Brian Emerson is an actor and technical director with a long career in the Washington, DC, and Baltimore areas.

Review :
"Confessions of an Economic Hit Man is an extraordinary and gripping tale of intrigue and dark machinations. Think John Le Carré, except it's a true story." -- "Amazon.com, editorial review" "[A] gripping tell-all book." -- "Rocky Mountain News" "A sweeping, bold assault on the tyranny of corporate globalization, full of drama and adventure, with devastating stories of greed run wild." -- "Howard Zinn, New York Times bestselling author" "It took a lot of courage to write this book because the author, an economic strategist, reveals that he was involved in swindling countries around the globe out of trillions of dollars. He is a very brave individual who has stood up to share the truth; my late husband, John, would have like that." -- "Yoko Ono" "One of the most remarkable books I have read in a long time. It is also one of the most frightening." -- "New Statesman" "Perkins combines the brilliance and suspense of a Graham Greene thriller with the authority of his insider vantage point to tell a true, powerful, revealing, and bone chilling personal story that names names and connects the dots." -- "David Korten, author of the bestselling When Corporations Rule the World" "This riveting look at a world of intrigue reads like a spy novel...Highly recommended." -- "Library Journal" "A bombshell. One of those rare instances in which someone deeply entrenched in our governmental/corporate imperialist structure has come forward to reveal in unequivocal terms its inner workings. A work of great insight and moral courage." -- "John E. Mack, Harvard professor and Pulitzer Prize-winning author" "An eye-opening exposé of global corruption and a fascinating story of adventure and intrigue. This devastating indictment of current economic policies also offers hope by showing the power of the growing movement toward a caring economics worldwide." -- "Riane Eisler, author of The Chalice and the Blade"
