About the Book

This video covers four presentations, plus a company site visit. The overheads for each segment are included in the packaging. The first presentation, Basic Principles of Electric and Magnetic Fields, reviews electric and magnetic fields necessary to understand the following presentations. The presenter discusses material properties, space charge, and distributed capacitance and inductance. The next presentation, Basic Principles of Switching, details travelling waves, transient recovery voltage, current chopping, capacitor switching and switchgear operation. In the third presentation, Transient Voltages in Windings, the presenter talks about network models for transformers and electric machines. The discussion includes application of lightning arrestors and methods to control voltage distribution in windings, and there is also discussion of modern computer models that include losses and magnetic saturation. The final presentation, Insulation Materials and Dielectric Design, has an overview of high voltage insulating systems and covers solid, liquid and gaseous insulation systems. Statistical design methods and experimental work are included. Viewers should have a background in electrical engineering and have an exposure to electric and magnetic fields and basic circuit analysis. This tutorial is ideal for engineers working on the design of high voltage equipment, users of high voltage equipment, technical people responsible for the purchasing, operation and maintenance of high voltage equipment, managers responsible for the operation of high voltage equipment, electrical engineering or physics students studying high voltage phenomena. After completing the tutorial, viewers should understand most of the basic problems in high voltage design. They should be able to make more informed judgements when selecting and applying equipment or if designing equipment will be exposed to the most modern techniques of analysis. A CEU exam is included in the package.

Table of Contents:
