Canadian Poetry from the Beginnings Through the First World War: (New Canadian Library)

This is the only anthology to present a full history of Canadian poetry — from the early 1600s through the expansiveness of poetic activity during the 18th and 19th centuries and into the flourishing first decades of the 20th century. The editors have compiled works from over 50 poets, including the verse of Isabella Valancy Crawford, Bliss Carman, Archibald Lampman and Duncan Campbell Scott, and several long narrative poems, including Oliver Goldsmith's "The Rising Village" and Crawford's "Malcolm's Katie."

About the Author :
CAROLE GERSON is Professor Emerita in the English department at Simon Fraser University. She is co-editor of volume 3 (1918-1980) of History of the Book in Canada, author of Canadian Women in Print, 1750-1918, which won the Gabrielle Roy Prize for Canadian criticism, and co-author of Hearing More Voices: English-Canadian Women in Print and on the Air, 1914-1960 with Peggy Lynn Kelly. She is the recipient of the Marie Tremaine medal from the Bibliographical Society of Canada. GWENDOLYN DAVIES is Dean Emerita of Graduate Studies at the University of New Brunswick. She has authored, edited, and co-edited seven books, as well as over sixty book chapters and articles. She is the recipient of the Queen's Jubilee Medal for her contribution to Canadian Studies and has been made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada.
