About the Book

Frustrated by Christianity? Modern American Evangelicalism has left many feeling that Christianity is partisan, cheap, shallow, and lifeless. But could it be that this current expression of the faith has failed to capture the deep, ancient power of what it really means to follow Jesus? Finding the Kingdom takes you on a thoughtfully curated journey through the writings of great disciples of Jesus from the past. On this journey down the narrow road of true discipleship, you will encounter the Living Jesus for yourself. Full of profound wisdom, Finding the Kingdom offers long-form readings, scripture passages, potent quotes, and simple prayers--all designed to confront you with Jesus Himself, in whose presence you will discover a faith that is costly, rich, alive, and true.

About the Author :
Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) was a British preacher, pastor, author, and theologian. A relentless disciple of Jesus, he was famed for his oratory and profound way with words; his sermons and books are a delight to both intellectuals and the average layperson. His passion for the Word of God and his inimitable style of leading his reader directly into the presence of each member of the Trinity have long been treasured by churchpeople all over the world. His own devotion to Jesus led him courageously through a full, and at times difficult, life; he stands today as one of the great saints of the last many centuries. Aiden Wilson Tozer (1897 - 1963) was a pastor, author, and spiritual mentor. A brilliant thinker and wholehearted follower of Jesus, Tozer pastored several different churches in the U.S. and Canada, wrote twelve books, and served as the editor for a denominational magazine -- all without a formal theological education. He and his wife, Ada, had seven children and were committed to a simple lifestyle, donating much of Tozer's author royalties to those in need. Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874 - 1936) was an English writer, philosopher, lay theologian, and literary and art critic. His literary legacy has had a lasting impact on a spectrum of thinkers and writers -- from Mahatma Ghandi, to Jorge Luis Borges, to Neil Gaiman. In addition to his fiction writings, which include the Father Brown Mysteries and The Man Who Was Thursday, Chesterton wrote powerful works on apologetics. Books like Orthodoxy and The Everlasting Man are as profound as they are imaginative. Chesterton leads his readers into a fuller understanding of Scripture, a deeper affection for Jesus, and a loving dedication to His church. Athanasius of Alexandria (c. 296-373) was a Greek theologian, writer, and bishop of the church at Alexandria, and is considered one of the great "church fathers." A brilliant apologist, at times almost a polemicist, Athanasius' life and writings justly earned him the title Athanasius Contra Mundum ("Athanasius against the world"). He was passionate about the incarnation of Jesus, as well as a right understanding of the meaning of each aspect of the life and death of the Savior. And though his life was filled with persecution and multiple exiles, he is now recognized as an important connective thread between the Early Church and our understanding of the Body today. John Calvin was an influential French theologian and pastor during the Protestant Reformation. He was a principal figure in the development of the system of Christian theology later called Calvinism. George MacDonald (1824-1905) was a Scottish minister, theologian, poet and author of multiple bestselling works of both fiction and non-fiction. He is best remembered for his fantasy works - both for children and adults - although his theological writings are of great and lasting significance. He is acknowledged as a profound influence by some of the greatest writers of the twentieth century: C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, J.M. Barrie, J.R.R. Tolkien and Madeleine L'Engle, just to name a few. And while the course of his life meandered between worldwide renown and abject poverty, his was a faith in Jesus Christ that remained steadfast and true. His life was a testament to the veracity of his great writings. Andrew Murray (1828-1917) was a South African pastor, author, missionary, and revivalist. An exceptional Bible teacher and prolific writer and thinker, Murray penned more than 240 books and tracts in his lifetime. All of his works champion the Christian's surrender to God and the Holy Spirit's infilling as paramount for true Christian life and work. His legacy endures - not only through his writing, but also through the missions organization which he founded, known today as Serving In Mission. Eugene Luning directs The Union, a ministry within the New Horizons Foundation, which exists for teaching, retreats, podcasting and spiritual counseling in Colorado and around the country. He is the author of Moments with Jesus Encounter Bible, along with many other books. Additionally, he is the cofounder of a real estate technology company, Panoramiq Markets Inc. Eugene and his wife Jenny are the parents of three children, Hadley, Tripp and Hoyt. They live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where they also lead a weekly fellowship, The Anchor.
