Review :
It does the job and does it well! A very good detailed book, which is readable and easy to understand. It also has some suitability for other levels, e.g. PhD. This is an excellent text book for both students and supervisors. It is clear, concise and well considered throughout. This is an an excellent text book - it provides practical advice on deigning and developing a Master′s dissertation. The well considered chapters detail the process and discuss the issues in an in-depth and well informed approach. Invaluable for both students and supervisors. This is an an excellent text book - it provides practical advice on deigning and developing a Master′s dissertation. The well considered chapters detail the process and discuss the issues in an in-depth and well informed approach. Invaluable for both students and supervisors. This book is essential reading for masters students doing their dissertation. It is clearly laid out, and gives students a good idea of what a masters level dissertation involves. However, it is also good at making that level of work appear very accessible. For many of our students this is their first piece of independent research, and this book is an excellent resource to accompany them on that journey.

The text takes the student from the very beginning of the project (thinking about where a masters dissertation might fit in their life, and what topic to choose) right through to the end where it helps to think through what the narrative argument will be, and how to shape the whole piece into a coherent whole. The diagrams are helpful, and very useful in teaching.

The book has been particularly useful when accompanied by an engaged teaching practice. For many of our students, who are engaging in politicised research, this text holds words of caution, but alongside the encouragement and support of their tutors, it does not put them off engaging in important political enquiry. Very useful text. Our library has bought several copies. Good advice for all students. Early chapters will be recommended for all to read. The bias toward social science in the later chapters may be off-putting for the more scientific minded engineering and computing students, but may result in the management students adopting the entire book more readily. This is an excellent book, which I plan (with the next intake of Masters students) to use as the main text. I am currently supervising Masters dissertation students and have strongly recommended that they purchase this book. A very comprehensive and yet accessible guide for students. It is a practical book that helps to break the enormous task into achievable chunks. An excellent book for students to understand the basics of what is required of their Masters Dissertation. Very useful and clear. Very informative text.
Ideal for this module Too legnthy for PG students Good overview of all areas, easy to read and follow. Highly recommend as additional text. I will reccomend this as a resource for Masters student about to embark upon their dissertations to enable them to get a good organised start. A complete one-stop guide to delivering a dissertation at Masters level. It is easy to read, clear and logical in structure, as well as being inspirational in its tone of voice.

Having been recently up-dated it is an invaluable resource for current MA students.
Fantastic A good read with some ideas for our students, however because it is at Master Level, is more indepth than our students at this stage require. Good additional text book that assists students in a structured and achievable way through their dissertation. The dissertation proves to eb the most challenging part of my Masters′ programme and Hart′s systematic and methodical approach to advising students is evidenced in this new book. Its got to help. Excellent book which will provide guidance throughout I have shown this text to some of our students who are due to start the dissertation module in January. They found the cover, the presentation of ideas, (the use of white space, tables, font, bold) and writing style resulted in seemingly organised material which is easily navigated and digested! I′ll suggest to the team that this become essential reading for the next year′s students who will number about 60. Clearly written giving good guidance for studetns who worry about the ′level′ required of them at M level.

Excellent research ethics chapter Essential read for those doing their Masters dissertation Useful text to show students I am supervising especially overseas students to guide them through the process. Really useful text for students who will progress to dissertation stage. An accessible, ′step-by-step′ guide to all aspects of completing a Masters dissertation. The initial chapters ′What is a Masters?′ and ′Managing your transition to Masters′ provide a sound base from which to embark on this level of research and academic writing. This book covers in a single volume the essential issues that Masters students need to consider when planning and writing up their dissertations. A particular strength is the consideration of different types of dissertation. It is also nice to see Chris Hart′s previous 2-volume guidance on lit searching and lit reviewing distilled within a single text.
